Conspiracies have run wild about the origin of Coronavirus, but experts believe it is most likely that the virus originated from bats. SARS and COVID-19 are diseases that have crossed from other species into humans. This is not uncommon. However, with these particular diseases, the wet markets in China seem to have been the catalyst to this process. We decode how wet markets foster the conditions that promote the crossing of disease between species. Why has the Chinese government allowed these markets to flourish despite concerns about their safety? And how should the international community respond to this ongoing potential threat?

All I cabn see is they are being asked to fill out a form and having their temp checked

If I was a british person who applied for the jobs aswell, I'd pull out

Its reported in the mail guardian and sky news.. I knwo Guardian and DM are dreadful agenda driven rags but if this is true it sets a poor example.

I thought I read that they were being quarantined in hotels upon arrival (cant remember where I read that as I read a few different news sources and blogs). Maybe Im wrong then

@Covrich Although the Romanians coming here without any sort of quarantine/testing is obviously bad, what's not being mentioned is our airports remain open. Some runways are shut because of economics but people can still come here from anywhere in the world and just mingle with the population, without being tested or quarantined

The prediction earlier on 5 live was more depressing than usual, the guy said a vaccine could be 18 months away and as we cannot stay locked down for that long it looks like we will have to get used to living with the virus rather than hiding from it, he suggested that once the first wave of cases and deaths is over and the NHS is no longer under the pressure it is now the NHS should be able to manage the numbers of new cases, a grim 10 minutes listening today.

I think that guy has nailed it, the lockdowns and social distancing is more about keeping the pressure off the hospital system, than saving lives. That is across the globe, the powers that be always knew there would be an enormous amount of lives lost, the virus is doing what viruses do target the sick and elderly. I think the next move will be when things level out, a staged level of return to normal where the hospital system can cope while we undergo community immunity.
With no vaccine I can't see any other way forward.

Talking of NY I feel sorry for Americans, it's absolute carnage over there. and now Trump has decided to reopen the US. That's madness. Even we are staying locked down for another 3 weeks

Thats true look at countroes like NZ whcih shut everythig yes far less dense but 4 deaths compared with the 12k we have had a

We dont really have a lock down though. We have more of a "restricted movement". If we had a proper lockdown we'd be like France or Spain

... I agree with @Cwrw666 ... we know our Government published figures are only reporting deaths in hospitals ... we have estimates that deaths in care homes are likely to increase those numbers by 50-100% ... and we have to be realistic that, with testing still at very low levels, there may well be large numbers of deaths happening in (private) homes of individuals who will not be being recorded as COVID-19 fatalities that maybe should be

I don't think, if our Government publishes revised figures in the future, we should all just assume that they were lying.

This guy puts forward a very plausible reason as to why black and hispanic people are getting hit more severely than white people.

Captain Tom has raised £18m for the NHS. Also Half a million people have signed a petion to the honours committee for Captain Tom to be knighted. If any one should be knighted it him considering the amount of people that get knighted simply for doing their job (MPs, industrialists, actors etc)
