    Tax return

this is funny because tax fraud actually costs the economy ten times what benefit fraud does, although newspaper proprietors tend to only whip up popular fury over the latter. so in a way by deliberately pissing about on his tax return, he's more a part of the problem than the so-called Jeremy...

First use of Braumeister - AG #6 Eldridge Pope Royal Oak

also interested in the water treatment - i'm brewing in north london as well and i've been unscientifically dumping a teaspoon of gypsum into my mash, but that's it.

    Ales and priming

i primed my first bottled bitter recently with half a tsp of dextrose and after a week it was plenty fizzy.

    AG#2: Red Power Ranger IPA

13 days later this has struggled down to 1015 with two rousings. i'll be giving it another stir tonight. it almost tastes like drinkable beer but i think the yeast, which i realise now i underpitched, has struggled. this beer really needs to come down a lot further to be dry enough...

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

i love the genuine article, really love it, and the taste of my own version certainly had a similarity in the smokiness. i think it's a good recipe. what yeast did you use for yours? and what sort of weird taste are you getting?

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

it is quick isn't it? fastest yet. my aeration technique is to drain the boiler at a bit of a height, with the wort hitting a sieve on the way down. i end up with a lot of foam so i presume there's enough air getting in there. i don't aerate with a paddle like i did with kits. it's a Buffalo...

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

fermentation almost done after 48 hours. currently at 1020 and tasting better than i'd dared hope, absolutely delicious. kicks the **** out of my previous efforts, it's taking all my willpower not to drink it straight out of the FV. fingers crossed it stays this good...

    recipe designing software

i like Beer Engine, i can mess with it at work on my Windows PC and it also works perfectly on my Mac (using WineBottler for compatibility).

    Brewing with coconut

there are some coconut beers out there. my wife had one recently at Mason & Taylor, it's certainly not my thing but she said it was good.

AG #1 - GW Pride. Mostly fun. WIth pics!

got this brew bottled now, including some dodgy Kernel-esque labels: Seem to have got the priming right. it's very tasty beer indeed but has two obvious flaws - - warming "spirit alcohol" component to it that i think is due to a too-high fermentation temp causing fusel alcohols - it's...

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

haha, don't knock it! ~90% efficiency and no stuck mashes so far! (only done three brews, but still...)

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

yes, is that not the standard ghetto sparge technique?

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

yeah, it looks pretty dark in that photo doesn't it? i don't think it was quite that black IRL, must be a trick of the light. pint of crude oil, anyone?

    AG#3: Treacle Stout

An attempt to approximate two of my favourite beers: Fullers London Porter, and Osset's Treacle Stout. This was a fun and easy brew day, and the first where I hit my target volume and my OG! Recipe: GW's London Porter recipe, but modified: - Replaced 300g of crystal with 300g black treacle...

    AG22 boddingtons clone

ha, the exact same thing happened to me on Thursday. had to use a milk bottle so only managed a 300ml starter for my 23L brew...we'll see how it goes...
