Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Hi guys, I've been making juice wines after reading this thread since last November. I've discovered a couple of things along the way and just thought I'd share them, sorry if these have already been covered. I ferment in 5L mineral water bottles instead of glass demijohns, I only did this as...

Geordie Lager hasn't quite turned out right

Thanks for the replies, I used cooper enhancer 2, I think it said on the pack that it was suited to lagers. In terms of carbonation, it is comparable to say Budweiser bottles, fizzes nicely when poured into a glass but not overly so to form a massive head and climb out of the glass. I used...

Geordie Lager hasn't quite turned out right

Hi all, I've had my first crack at a lager kit, and I used Geordie lager and coopers brew enhancer. I bottled it 4 weeks ago and have tasted a couple of the smaller bottles and it tastes overwhelmingly malty, so much so I dont know if I can actually face drinking any more. I've been back...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

OK dumb question time: what happens if you use all red or white grape juice instead of adding alternative fruit juices (sticking to the rest of the recipe), would you end up with red or white wine??

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Does degassing have any effect on the taste? I have made 5 differing variations of juice wine now and have only ever got a small amount of fizz by shaking the DJ after adding stabilising powder, so I was assuming that there was actually very little co2 present.

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Just measured it with the hydrometer and it's at 0.990. Tasted some from the sampling jar and it's fairly dry, quite strong and very nice actually. I've topped it up a little with cooled boiled water but left around 2" head space in the PET DJ. I don't have a thermometer on it but it's been kept...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

My first go at a WOW is orange and purple grape (could find any white) and after only 5 days in the DJ it's slowed to a bubble every 5 mins or so. It's also lightened in colour considerably and has about 1/2 inch of lees at the bottom. Should I be considering racking it already??

Parsnip Wine, ten days in FV?

Thanks Snake, The recipe actually calls for the parsnips to be removed immediately. And your right, the sugar and raisin juice mix did end up as a kind of syrup. It's been in the FV for a few days now and isn't going too mad so I'm going to transfer it to a DJ this evening. Smells awesome...

    Bottle Washing tips and tricks

Personally I soak them in warm soapy water for half an hour to loosen the paper and then use a cloth dampened with acetone and every glue so far just wipes off. Clean water rinse and all done. If you can't get acetone, most nail varnish removers are acetone based so you could try that. If you...

Parsnip Wine, ten days in FV?

Hi everyone, Second post, first question. I'm making parsnip wine as per the recipe and method given in the book "booze for free". The method calls for it to sit in a the fermentation bucket for ten days before transferring it to a demijohn, why can't I put it straight into the demijohn...

    Hello from South Wales!

Good evening everyone, I'm just starting out with some basic kit bought from the Range, and a brew buddy cider kit fermenting nicely as I type. I'll try to search the forums for loads of information that's already on here but I'm sure I'll still have some daft questions for you all. I hope...
