    Dry Hopping

Hi guys, I’m makin a West Coast pale ale. I’ve fermented for 11days and now I’ve racked into a secondary (primarily because the yeast cake was massive). I’ve then added 160g of whole leaf hops and they seem to just float on top. I tried a gently to introduce...

Hello from the Waikato, New Zealand

If your in Hamilton check out the Good George brew bar chain which is based there. There's a big one (Good George) and smaller one (Little George) both in Hamilton town. Some of the best new world hopped beers you'll get!

    HERMS system

This is exactly what I was struggling to understand. Stopping flow out of you ball lever you effectively have a load of wort stuck in there. I suppose blowing it out isn't the worst idea. Least there's a boil afterwoods which sanitises it!

    HERMS system

Hi guys, I've been looking into HERMS systems and am seriously thinking about building one into my current setup. As I currently understand it the wort leaves the mash tun is pumped through a pump into the HERMS coils within the HLT and then back into the top of the mash tun. What I...

    Wort Chiller

Cheers guys. I'm just sick of water dripping out everywhere would love a quick disconnect type solution with zero leaks. Not too good with soldering so may look to get some thinner hose around the 10mm pipe which will thicken it up and hopefully improve the seal.

    Wort Chiller

Hi guys, I've built a DIY wort chiller consisting of 10mm x 10m copper pipe hose and hose clamps. However I find that water leaked at the pipe - hose joint. Tightening the hose clamps helps but doesn't resolve the issue. Does anyone know a fitting that will connect the pipe and hose...

    Attenuation, Flocculation and priming

Hi guys, Ive been reading up on attenuation and have a few questions. If I have a OG of 1.06 and I pitch with a yeast strain that has an apparent attenuation of 80%, in theory if i ferment through it should reach a FG of 1.012 right? My understanding is that the yeast will then...

    Boiler / mash tun size

Hi guys, I'm looking to do my first all grain brew soon, and I've read various books about the ease of the brew in the bag method. For this I bought a 25litre PP bucket with a kettle element in which I was going to use as both the mash tun and boiler. However when heating the water it...

    Measuring SG

Hey guys, I'm brewing basic ginger beer; sugar, ginger, lemon etc. Measured the SP before pitching and got a reading of 1.064. Three days in ive decanted a small amount just to check how the fermention is going. However I got a reading of 1.072 so it's gone up. You could taste the...
