Tesco own brand sweetener vs splenda?

I've always used Asda's own, and its done the job... well SWMBO hasn't complained! I've not tried Splenda as I'm a bit of a cheapskate and will always try supermarket own label first, and if that tastes OK, stick with it.

    Disaster!

Mine's a burco, so the element is concealed, does this make a difference? Plus, the sound of that thermal fuse going, that gets me nervous!

    Disaster!

Not yet, me and electrics aren't the best of friends, so I'm consulting lots of posts on how to do it before risking it! Before yesterday, the cut out hadn't really kicked in much, so it wasn't getting in the way of brewing. After yesterday though, I'm definitely looking more closely at what the...

    Disaster!

Well I thought as it's a cool day, brewing up in the garage would mean less likely the cut out on the Burco would er, cut in. Today, instead of cutting in 45 minutes into the boil, it decided to do it before the boil had even started. It's at 95, so nearly there but I think I'm going to have to...

    Will they go?

Brilliant, thank you! Doing a 5 gallon BIAB, so will follow that and see what we end up with :-)

    Will they go?

Quick question brewers as I've got permission to do a brew this morning :-) ... I've got 100g of Goldings and 100g of Cascade, will they combine nicely or am I better going for a SMaSH? Ta

    Love brewing - Liverpool

On a visit to see my son, found this HBS on West Derby Road, Liverpool and it's a little gold mine! They had a good selection of hops, a few all grain kits made up so you can brew a Black sheep clone or a Theakston's best etc., a few two can kits, loads of different wine kits... and I could go...

    Fruits of the Forest Cider

Looking good! Don't know about you, but the smell coming from my FV is amazing.... and I'm not even a fan of berry ciders!

    Fruits of the Forest Cider

Can't comment on this particular kit, I've only just put this same kit on yesterday, but the Wilko's ordinary cider did that, seemed to calm itself down after a vigorous start. I still leave it for 10 days before even thinking of testing the gravity. One thing to note, the contents of the tin...

Anybody use soda chargers in a keg?

All depends if you managed to keep all the CO2 in the barrel from secondary fermentation. I've had barrels where there's been a leak in the top, so I manage a pint before I've got to resort to a CO2 canister... in those instances, it could be 5 or 6 or more per barrel... but saying that, I've...

Anybody use soda chargers in a keg?

+1 (especially the bleeding bit, lost many a canister to that bugger)

    got sanitizer in my wort!!!!!

Airlock? I used to use one, but then clumsy mug here stood on it, so now I don't bother. So far not lost a brew yet! Interestingly, went to the Lancaster Brewery the other week and their fermenters are open to the air :o The brewer said because the yeast are added when they're at their peak of...

    Too much foam

Sorry, that pressure is there for a while yet... once it starts to pour a pint out in one go, that'll be almost the end of the CO2 in the barrel and you'll be resorting to CO2 canisters to top it up. I now pour that first blast, leave it to settle down, top it back up and repeat until I get...

    Great name

In a similar vein to Swift Pint, at work our e-mail addresses are first name initial, followed by surname, we had to alter that when a lass joined the company called Kim Hunt as it was deemed a bit too dodgy. Incidentally with my name Andy Lancaster, people call me Alan as they see my email...
