Firstly, I am a newbie to using a barrel (10 litre / 2 gallon) and mini keg (5 litre) as I have in the past always bottled my beers. I am after two pieces of advice:
1. How much priming sugar to I use in both the barrel and mini keg and should it be dissolved in water first and then added to...
I was wondering if there are any Home Brew clubs or meets around the Middlewich/Northwich or Nantwich areas of Cheshire.
I am a fair Newbie to Home Brew and would be keen to join a club or maybe even start one of there is interest to share ideas and brewing tales (as well as the finished...
Thanks Sadfield for your excellent post, I will follow your advice and OG - also thanks simon12 for your advise I will heed that when making up the kit.
Sadfield - I would be interested in some more information on the Macc Home Brew Club if possible.
I have a 2nd Youngs American IPA kit to start, my first attempt ended up with an ABV of 6.9% which is a little high for session drinking!!
My question is on this 2nd attempt is there an easy way to ensure the ABV comes out around 4.5% - 5% - it comes with a Malt pouch and 1kg of brewing...
I had a huge krausen on mine which blow through the airlock on numerous occassions, not sure how to make a blow off tube! :-?
I am now prepared for it to take a lot longer to ferment out, just hope the hops will not ruin it as put them in at day 15!
Thanks for the advice, from the sample I had last night when testing the gravity and from the smell of it when the addition of the hops I have high hopes too!!
The reviews are good for it and I like a very hoppy IPA so hoping all good - just a little stronger than I normally go for! :-?
I am hoping it will not take too much longer then - will the bubbling stop when fermentation is complete? Then check the gravity remains stable over a few days?
I am a fairly Newbie to Home brewing and this is my 2nd kit a Youngs American IPA.
I am after some advice as my fermentation seems to be not going by the instructions - I appreciate that these things being natural may sometimes not follow the instructions.
The wort has been in the FV for...
I have drunk about half of my 1st ever Home Brew (40 pint kit) which was an outstanding success but I am struggling to work out when to start my 2nd brew batch so that I do not have any period of time without Home Brew being available.
I only have the 40 x 500ml bottles (plus a few extra) so...
I am planning my 2nd Home Brew beer run and I have been looking at either the Muntons Hand-Crafted American Style IPA or the Muntons Courage Directors Bitter.
Has anyone had any experience with these kits and how they turn out?
Thanks in advance
I have just bottled a Ritchies Simply Yorkshire Bitter into 500ml bottles and the recipe saifd to prime with a flat teaspoon of sugar
