    Worried about Wherry

Ok. So i have taken the 2nd of 3 gravity readings and it is down to 1.019 which is about as far as I think it is going to get. Hoping actually that it doesn't go any lower as it's now 5.25% which is about what I am after. With priming I reckon it will get to be about 6% which is great for an...

    Worried about Wherry

Is there a good all rounder I should be looking to purchase for further brews?

    Worried about Wherry

I have only ever used the packet yeast from the kits if I am honest, and to be fair I have never had a problem with them not fermenting out. I usually give it 2 maybe 3 weeks in the FV. Then I siphon off to a secondary vessel and give it another week. Then I batch prime on the lower end of...

    Worried about Wherry

Ok, panic over. Just been in the cupboard under the stairs to check and there is an almighty Krause n formed. Looks like I was having a panic over nothing. But thank you all for the reassurance 😀

    Worried about Wherry

Including this one I always brew to 20l personally. I dont mind it being a bit stronger and neither do my guest samplers. Plus I find it gives a better fuller taste as well. I assume I am not the only one doing that?

    Worried about Wherry

Hi TerryM, Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that when I use simple fermentables like treacle for example it was easier for the yeast to start digesting? Shows what i know. OK so I won't panic for now and will.update tomorrow if nothing has happened.

    Worried about Wherry

I normally do single can kits with extra fermentables added. This however is my first brew since Jan and intended to be my Xmas beer so I am just a little worried. Being as it is my first 2 can kit, and it has reacted differently to the 4-5 brews I have previously done, i guess i am just...

    Worried about Wherry

Hi everyone, I am worried about my first Wherry. Put it on last night about 8pm and checked on it this morning. Can't see any of the usual signs of fermentation starting. No Krausen to speak of, and I am a bit worried it hasn't started. Could it be cos with the Wherry there is no extra...

    It's cold.......Let's Lager!!!!!

So, following on from my Geordie lager I have decided to go for a Wilko Mexican Cerveza while I have cold temperatures and plenty of time. Going to use half a kilo of white sugar and a kilo of mentions beer enhancer and bring it out at about 5% in the end. Anyone done one if these kits and...

    Geordie Lager

It finished up at about 4.3% in the end. Was aiming to have a significant stock available for the spring/summer when it warms up. Turns out that I have actually given away more of this than I have tasted so going out on a bit of a limb there. Suppose I had better try it even though it might be...

    Geordie Lager

This lager has now been bottled and had the required 3+2+2 and is now ready for tasting as an early sample. Will update shortly on how it turns out but is crystal clear in the bottle and they are very from which suggests food carbonation. Wish me luck :)

    Kit & Kilo.....almost

This has been independently confirmed as an excellent brew. No HB twang. Good strength at 6.7 and has now had plenty of time to mature in the bottle. If it wasn't so cold and I was only brewing lagers ready for the summer, I would have put an identical brew to this on already. I would post a...

    First Brew

OK so i figured it was time for an update. Anyone new to this hobby should take the advice regarding time to mature seriously. As this was my first brew I was desperate to try it. As such, it wasn't great. Leaving it in the bottle for a month or two has made this a very good stout indeed...

    Real lager

What fermentables do you use DarrellM?

    Real lager

Taking advantage of the cold weather, and having somewhere I can brew in low temps. Have already done a Geordie Lager that is in the 2nd FV for a week. But, I heard somewhere on here that it came with an ale yeast that brews at low temps. I also think I read that Youngs Harvest Lager kit...
