    Wine kit recommendations for newbie

I have made a few of the beaverdale kits myself, I prefer a red wine & my good lady likes the Chardonnay/Sauvignon blanc. I do feel though, that the beaverdale red wines are slightly lacking in "body". While I do enjoy these during the summer months, I prefer a red wine from the Vintners...

    Sad Day

Nice thought, but I can't see it happening myself. If anything, after a beer moves away from "home" it usually takes a turn for the worse!

Heads up re: backer Kettle Elements

There is about 2mm-3mm on the end of the shrouds without any thread on them. I have a couple of those elements as well, I sanded them down until the screwthreads were on the edge of the shroud, this solved the problem & I can get mine nice & tight now. Probably because the kettle surface is...

    Gentlemen....your advice please..

Phone the store up to let them know about it & point out that it is not economical for you to go back to the store & request them to send you a replacement. If they won't, tell them that you will report them for selling out of date goods. Hang on to your receipt as well, this is your proof of...

How To: Make a Youngs 7 day wine kit

Excellent guide, but may I add to this by saying that it may be a good idea to stand the demijohn on a old sheet or newspaper in case it foams over, as they have been known to do so during the first couple of days fermentation. You could also only top it up to around 7 pints, when the...

    Cork question

That's how I do it. I stand them upright for 3 days first, apparently this allows the cork to "swell" & form a tight seal in the bottle, after being squashed in the corking tool. If you don't allow for this & lay your bottles down straight away after corking, they may "weep" a little.

    homebrewing laws

I can vaguely remember reading about this in the quarterly newsletters called "Homebrew Today" which used to be available in home brew shops in the 1980's-1990's. Iirc, it is ok to give your brews to someone else, but no money may change hands, nor must it be used for fund raising purposes, ie...
