    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

I did think it was odd! It's the first time I've used it. I thought maybe it was just different with the sprinklet lids?

    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

Quick update on this one - I did indeed dry hop last night (in a hop sock) and inject CO2 with the sprinklet system. It obviously injected A LOT more than needed and the barrel swelled quickly, to the point I was worried it may split. Luckily it didn't and I opened the tap to let some of the...

    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

Haven't seen a pumped hopback, but have considered making one of these.

    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

It is indeed! That sounds like a good idea, but I don't think it'll be possible :-(

    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

Thanks, Godsdog. Yeah, it should all be drunk on day 3 so it should actually be at peak flavour, and I have some hop socks I can use :thumb: Mainly worried that it'll be difficult to re-carbonate - not sure how effective the little 8g sprinklet bulbs are!

    CONUNDRUM - dry hopping

Hi guys, would really appreciate some advice on this one :thumb: I recently brewed a session ale but, for one reason or another (but mostly my own stupidity), only did one of two planned dry hops. The beer is now carbonated and it's tasting okay but could do with a little more from the hops...

    warm weather

As I also lack temperature controls, I've started using Hothead yeast - supposedly little impact on flavour within a very wide temperature range. Just bottled my first beer with it so we'll see how it comes out, but the starter (with no hops added) smelled absolutely amazing. Bright and...

    Oatmeal IPA

There are a few things, some scientific (which I am by no means an expert on) and some practical. Sorry if you already know a lot of this, I am going to assume you don't - hopefully someone can correct me if I've got it wrong! (Most of my information is from Palmer's How to Brew - if you don't...

    Oatmeal IPA

What do you want to know? Mashed in a converted coolbox so started with a stiff mash and added hot liquor at the different intervals to bring the temperature up, then performed a simple batch sparge.

    Oatmeal IPA

Yes, quite nicely balanced. I don't think you'd necessarily know the IBUs were so high on paper. Over time it's changed quite a bit - initially I don't think you'd have known it was so strong, but when I tried a bottle recently the juicy, fruity hop aroma and flavour has diminished significantly...

    Oatmeal IPA

Had a first taste of this one from the mini-keg last night and I'd say it's the best beer I've made so far, so thought I'd share in case anyone else fancies giving it ago. I was aiming to combine some of my favourite aspects of Kernel and BBNo beers and it's ended up like a Cloudwater... I am...

American-style wheat w/ Kazbek and Motueka

Just checked the gravity and had a little taste. It's nice, though not very wheaty!

American-style wheat w/ Kazbek and Motueka

Yeah, I'd agree - definitely want to keep it on the low side to prevent too many clove/banana flavours coming through. I'm hoping to dodge that by going for something more neutral, but we'll see. Which hops are you going for?

    Best commercial beer

Anything from Kernel or Cloudwater has me rushing back to the bar. My favourite beer is probably Gollems Precious IPA from Cafe Gollem in Amsterdam. Absolutely superb. I've been desperately trying to find a recipe for it, but no such luck.

American-style wheat w/ Kazbek and Motueka

Cheers - going reasonably smoothly (so far). What yeast are you using? I'd be happy with 20-24c, but that's with a standard American yeast, nothing special. I don't have a great deal of control over temperature, unfortunately, but I find that's usually a pretty easy range to hit with my kit.
