Your proposed fermentation vessels look a lot like my Sansone 50l ones. Excellent FVs if you make sure to drill a hole in top with a grommet to take a length of silicone tube leading down into a cup of Sanitiser to act as a blowoff if the yeast gets frisky. I especially like the small tap which...
I use a black plastic dustbin with clips to hold lid on.. holds sack of pale malt and lots of other malts too and is light proof and mouse proof too!

I'd leave it just where it is for another few days at say 18 then drop it down to 14 for a day or two and finally take it down low to 4 degrees for a couple of days which will cause most of the yeast and crud to drop out and really clear up the beer. So 2 to 2.5weeks in FV is what i follow and...
Many of us here don't use fans as the improvement you will typically see in stable temperature will be so obvious without one but I see the logic and bought but never wired up my fans. I got 21W 240v one which is massively overkill so sits in a drawer. Two cheap 12v ones might get used at some...
Me: How much better will my beers be if only I were to buy.....insert brewing equipment name, typically shiny.
Wife: what are you going to do with 200 bottles of beer? That one was true. Duhhhhh.
Did you close the kettle tap before starting mash run off? Which often follows: Why is the floor wet?
Instead of distilled water I just boiled kettle and as it finishes boil, open lid and take some droplets of condensed steam onto refractometer from the now open lid. Zero cost, a calibration of 0 and a nice cup of tea to follow. What's not to like !?
Blue mist? Sorry to state obvious but does twisting the eyepiece not focus numbers and level more precisely and holding up to bright light will help!?
Both hydrometer and refractometer measure differently in fermented beer than unfermeneted wort too as is mentioned earlier.
Cheap hydrometers and...
I use about 2g or 1 teaspoon Protofloc granules in 50l wort and does me well but finding scales to measure in grams as small as that is a pain so I agree on half of your tablets ground up between teaspoons or mortar and pestle for your 25l. Can't say I always bothered to keep it to just a half...
I was so excited at my new CO2 setup when I got it that I forgot to secure the bottle and so pulled it over after 2 minutes smashing the brand new regulator and just missing my head. These tanks are heavy and unstable so totally agree about securing them upright with something like a chain or...
Take some piccies as you go along! I really enjoyed making mine and all the forum browsing that went beforehand. No more worrying about fermentation temperatures!
+1 on what tartan says. I've only had one infection and that made me switch plastic to stainless. I was so concerned about cleanliness I used to scrub my plastic FV with sponge scrubbers and was told that scratches often hide nasties that a sanitiser and cleaner can't reach. That was my...
