First all grain brewer and disappointed to find clumpy floaties on top.
Any ideas on type of infection though hoping it might be coagulated proteins????

People often wonder about adding ice directly to the cooling wort. This idea works well if you remember a couple key points.
Never use commercial ice. It can harbor dormant bacteria that could spoil your beer.
Always boil...
With 50% at 65oC and 50% pre-cooled at 5oC the resultant temperature would be only 35oC - another 15oC to go.
I hadn't considered using ice as part of the water volume directly.
Any views on whether this would have a detrimental effect on brew?

A good friend has brought out some all grain kits and we can improvise most of the kit we need.
One challenge is wort cooling as tap water is currently running close to 30oC...
