ick! at least I have drunkenness to blame for drinking it 'neat' hahaha. Markmark - I wish! Lots of wine bubbling away here but there's none to drink! Sometime - he's made me promise that there will be a constant supply of booze coming his way...I'd better get this lot filled up quick...

yup, feeling VERY lucky today :) I never dreamt he'd bring me this much! better than christmas! boozy_shoes - I have vague memories of having hendo's as a (very) last resort mixer with dark rum at a house party once...Don't think I'll be making wine with it haha. :drink:

So my dad decided he was very pleased that his eldest daughter has decided to take up brewing as a hobby, and offered to donate some stuff he doesn't use any more. "there's a few demijohns and some bottles you can have" he said. "Great, that should be enough to keep me going" said I. Well...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

No, I'm not sure when you're supposed to use it either :wha: Oh well, the wine is looking good anyway, bubbling away nicely in my kitchen :)

Quick WOW questions before I start....

all done, just added 50g of sugar and 100ml of raspberry juice, its bang on 1.090 now. I'm just going to ignore the 'potential alcohol' bit of my hydrometer because it's confused me tooooo much! It's funny, I smashed my old one so went to wilkinsons and bought one of theirs, I never got...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

there were 170g in the juices (forgot to take the 30g of sugar from the raspberry's off, I haven't added them yet) and I added 889g extra sugar. so 1059 total, still somewhere between 11 and 12% according to the tables. yes, I was aiming for 1.090 and 12% when I calculated my sugar, but my...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

right, according to my hydrometer the sg is 1.074, which is right on the line for 12% abv. This doesn't seem right as all the hydrometer tables I've looked at say 1.090 is about 12%! when i put the numbers into the brewers friend abv calc, it says (if starting sg is 1.074) I will end up with a...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

oh dear.....everything is in the dj now, I couldn't wait! Not much point in asking for opinions and then carrying on anyway  I still have that new-brewer-got-to-do-it-now-excitement! The raspberry's are still draining so I could bottle the juice and add a tiny bit at a time, when I rack...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

Ahh, good tip Rob! I've got my eye on some cider bottles (500ml) for the ginger beer I've made. It's about 8.5% so that's definitely handy to know!

Quick WOW questions before I start....

Yes, I'm making a gallon. 13.5% is what I worked out with an sg of 1.100. Hmmmm, I might drop it a bit actually, I'm after quite a fruity, easy to drink wine. I do remember reading somewhere about higher %'s stripping flavour, thanks! 12 % sounds good enough :) So....sg of about 1.090 = 889g...

Quick WOW questions before I start....

I'm about to start a gallon of raspberry/cranberry wow type thingy. I have a good idea about what to do but just wanted to see if anyone has made something similar before, and if there is anything you would do differently. I'm planning: 600g frozen raspberry's (thawed and strained so I just...

    alcotec nooob

I made some of this stuff a few years ago, thinking it would save me money on festival booze...wrong  ! Admittedly I didn't filter through charcoal, but it came out tasting awful. I had to buy all sorts of stuff to flavour it with because plain old coke/juice didn't seem to cover the...

    talk about feet first!

 have I eck! the ginger beer is carbonating in 2l pop (hopefully not POP!) bottles, and the rest are either not ready to rack or are clearing in the dj's....so hopefully I will have time to collect/buy enough bottles before it all needs doing! hahahahaa, so much for being more prepared...

    talk about feet first!

Hello everyone, another newby here :) I'm new to home brewing (apart from a horribly failed attempt at some blackberry wine about 4 years ago!) but have decided that since I'm so skint all the time I should start again! So about 3 weeks ago I unearthed all my old gear and set about making...
