Thanks for the help. I think I am leaving it too long and the yeast must not be sufficient to get decent carbonation. I suppose I have listened too the bottle bomb scaremongers too much.
Hi all,
I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this but I struggle to get consistent carbonation in my turbo cider. I've been making it for a while with mixed results and can't find a fool proof method. I don't mind scrumpy style cider but swmbo likes it fizzy. As I mainly make wine help would be...
Hi all,
I have been recently helping a friend get into brewing. I helped him make a couple of WOWs. Then he hit me with a question. Does adding water reduce the strength of the brew? After some confused discussion I have more questions than answers and have never really thought about it...
Thanks for all the input people. Really helpful. I will have a go. I tend not to go into the technical stuff so will keep it as simple as I can and will report back. Cheers.
I have read the JOAM and it looks like a good starting point. I think I will start with a straight mead. I was thinking something like this:
4 jars of honey (I like to keep costs down so probably value honey)
Lemon juice
Not sure what yeast yet.
In all the recipes I've seen no one uses...
Agreed. I think some people like to make it complicated to confuse plebs like me. However, I like to keep things as simple as possible. My goal is to make tasty brews with limited space and effort, otherwise I wouldn't bother (but that's just me). I have read somewhere that someone topped up...
Hi all,
I fancy making a 1 gallon batch of Mead but have never done it before. I have made loads of wine so sort of know what i'm doing.
Normally with wine I only fill up to below the shoulder of my 1 gallon DJ so it doesn't escape through the air lock. I then top up with water once...
Well I've bottled my grape less wow and it tastes great. I'm very impressed with the apple and grapefruit and so is SWMBO. At first it was very sour but has mellowed. Only problem I had was with my Novatwists not sealing properly.
I've had the same reaction tonyhibbert. I gave my wine to a colleague (who was very snooty about homebrew) in a fancy Malborough bottle. He drank it happy commenting on its merits. It didn't even have any grape in it!
