    BIAB How much mashing liquid?

Roughly speaking, you'll lose 0.5 litres of water per kg of grain due to absorption when doing BIAB. So you'll want your preboil (27 litres) + half a litre for each kg of grain in your recipe.

Prob been asked a million times before

Yes, if you take a reading prior to fermentation, often noted as OG for Original Gravity, then you'll be able to calculate the level of alcohol in your finished product.

Prob been asked a million times before

Simple answer: if it's reading 1.010 for a few days straight, then that's good. Complex answer: You need to take into account your mash temp, fermentable sugars, water profile, yeast target attenuation, ambient temperature, and other things I'm forgetting. Go with the simple answer :)

    single grain single hop

I thought this was going to be a yeast-less brew. Only hops and malt were mentioned :wha:

    Agitating during fermentation.

Agitation during fermentation can be quite good for the beer since it knocks out Co2 that makes the yeast sleepy, and throws the yeast back into suspension. The only thing you want to avoid is overdoing it and ending up oxidizing your beer. But for a beer that's still actively fermenting, your...

    single grain single hop

Czech Pils is just pilsner and saaz, so that's what you'd be close to with pale ale and saaz. I'll throw in an additional vote for EKG and pale SMaSH.

    Citra hops

I always find they have more of a mango flavor and aroma than citrus.

    Best web site ever!!!!

I remember brewing a few recipes from that site when I was starting out, and they didn't turn out well. Now, going back to my notes, it wasn't 100% my lack of experience brewing, but the recipes were just wonky. My preference now is to always grab recipes from either a source you trust or at...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2012?

Crud, missed the 5 gallons of northern brown and 5 gallons of summer ale I've got fermenting right now. Make that 2151.5 gallons total.

    Favorite bitter recipe?

Looks like a winner! I'll probably need to double up on the Challenger as I don't have any Northdown, but everything else I've got in stock. What yeast do you usually go with? WY1968 / WL002?

    Favorite bitter recipe?

Hey guys, I'm wanting to brew a bitter. For the most part I put together my own recipes, but thought I'd try reaching out to the group to see if someone has a favorite recipe that they have brewed before with good results. I'll be happy to document my brew and give feedback on the recipe.

    Will this work?

Ok cool, if you know your water is soft and want to try adjustments that's certainly worth checking out!

    Will this work?

Looks good! I'd probably dial the hops back just a little bit, 50 IBUs in 1.041 beer might be a bit much. I would adjust down to 40 IBUs if it was for me (or down to 25 if it was for a poor unsuspecting lager drinking sap!). I certainly like hops, but I think this might be a little...

The transfer of Break Material to FV...?

I far prefer protein clumps like that photo as opposed to a protein haze. clumps drop out easily when fermentation settles. Once fermentation is fully complete, that's the only real time that I worry what my beer looks like.
