Door bell rang tonight when I had been mixing starsan, I accidentally left lid of the measuring side of the Starsan bottle for 5 mins. Will the bottle still be good or should I chuck it.
Just realised 2 days into fermentation of a Young Scottish heavy kit that I should have added 1.5kg of sugar rather than the 1kg I added. Is it a total waste or Will it still be safe and drinkable just with less alcohol than 5.6% expected? The OG was 1.040. Will teach me to read tin rather than...
First time using an airlock. It had a red plastic cap on it, with no small hole. Am I supposed to keep lid on it when fermentation it. It seems quite a loose fit so guess the gas can esacape?
Just got a fermenting vessel with tap. It recommends smearing petroleum jelly on the tap thread. As some of that will be inside vessel, will this cause a risk to beer. It will be a tub kept exclusively for brewing!
Thanks for all the advice and confirmation, guess it was my OCD that kicked in. I have quickly discovered that having OCD does not go well with brewing I end up cleaning and sanatizing all the time! Though if it gets results like I had with first 2 brews it's worth it. Good tip about not sealing...
just finished my first large brew of Cider. After bottling I simply used a couple of washes of hot water and cloth wiping to clean it out. It looks spotless Before I brew my next batch I will of course soak it and all equipment in Starsan solution. My question is was water and elbow grease...
I was thinking a tap would be easier for bottling using a wand. What was putting me off was how meticulous you need to be with cleaning, do you have to unscrew it every time and if so does all the assembling and disassemblying not tend to cause misfitting and leakages. Would hate for all the...
Made my first small starter batch of beer 10l and got the bug. As most tins seem to be for larger size looking to get a 30-33 litre. Cannot decide between one with tap or without and use a syphon.
Any advice on tap or syphon?
Also my smaller kit just had a closed lid. With larger size...
