This is a 7.5% IPA, and has come out very tasty indeed. However some of the bottles have ended up with a rhubarb-coloured top to the beer. These are mostly new bottles sourced from a friend, and were once cider bottles. The most likely culprit seems to me to be some kind of infection from the...
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask about fermentation and why I'm still getting bubbles after - I presume - fermentation has ceased.
I'm using the BIAB method in a Peco boiler, and am letting it ferment in the Peco boiler as well. I've got it sat on top of a small freezer unit while it ferments...
Thanks for all your advice! I actually went out to collect some more elderflowers a couple of days ago, but found that the majority had already gone - it seems I've missed the harvest now. It's OK though, I still put a load in during the last 5 minutes of the boil, and given Slid's experiences...
Thanks for your feedback guys! I'll put the flowers in boiling water as you suggest. I am wondering if I need it though - I already put some in on the last 5 mins of the boil. But the whole thing is an experiment so we shall see!
I've got a fairly basic IPA fermenting at the moment, but with fresh elderflowers added in the last 5 minutes of the boil. I'm planning to dry-hop with Citra, but I'd like to add some extra elderflowers as well. I froze some of my harvest for this purpose; but freezing didn't work out that...
I've never rehydrated before, I always just sprinkled it on the top and never had a problem.
Will rehydrate from now on though, thanks for the advice everyone!
Based on this one, but with a few substitutions with what I already had in the cupboard: http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/365179/tiny-rebal-cwtch-clone
My most recent brew was made putting a recipe together on Brewer's Friend. When I put the yeast sachet into the recipe (Safale US-05) it said there was a deficit, and that I needed to add more. So I put 2 sachets in. But I'm puzzled - I've made a few brews before, and have always just put one...
I've been wondering about this recently. Some of the hops I've been buying has come as pellets inside what is essentially a giant teabag. It keeps the residue out of the boil, but the tea bags sit on the surface, making me wonder if it isn't a very efficient way of distributing the flavour...
Thought people might like to know that I've just bottled my brew (a hoppy APA) after fermenting in the peco boiler, and the crud came off the element very easily - it just rinsed off! Am going to boil it with citric acid anyway, but I'm very pleased with that.
Thanks guys - tying up my boiler isn't really an issue, but if it could lead to problems with the element then perhaps I won't do it this way next time. I guess I'll see how much of a pain it is to clean the thing!
EDIT: Just found this thread on cleaning the element. Looks like I'll be...
