    Worried about pellicle in FV

Haha no I wrote the reply a couple of hours ago but the forum was down for optimising or something so clicked back and just left the page open ready to try again. Unfortunately the forum gremlin was out and about again so it all got a bit messed up. Apologies for hijacking your thread but I'm...

    Worried about pellicle in FV

Yeah it must be a bummer for them to see all the years worth of good work they have done being buggered up by what turns out to be an amateur outfit in such short a space of time. Oh well cheers lads and thanks for helping me down the AG path :drunk::clap: and for the new owners I hope they...

    Define "Boil"

Using a PID in manual mode? Can you explain what you mean by that because PID in manual is pretty pointless, it kind of defeats the object. What do you use as the setpoint for your PID? Why would you want to go elsewhere, if you have a valid argument then fight your corner?!?

    Define "Boil"

Sorry but you are talking absolute rubbish, quoting from a manual is no comparison to working experience. PWM is often used in conjunction with the output from a PID so maybe you are confused.

    Define "Boil"

Yeah it is pulse width modulation, I've been using one of these for a while now and it works spot on :thumb: I fitted mine in a plastic box along with an ammeter so I've got some sort of reference (also something to look at lol) You could also go for one of the pricier phase angle controllers...

    Define "Boil"

PID is totally the wrong thing to use in this application. You do not want to be trying to work to a set temperature. If you want to control the boil vigour to try and cut down on evaporation then you need something like this PWM controller

    Coopers Dark Ale

Sorry mate I cant remember exactly it was back in 2009 when I was doing kits, I just remember really liking it. I don't recall it tasting like dandelion and burdoch? Maybe they changed the recipe? As for what I put in it, I have a feeling it was sugar the first time and dark DME the second.

    Coopers Dark Ale

Not recently as such, but it is the only kit beer I ever brewed more than once. I really liked it

Danstar Windsor Yeast Low Attenuation - Is this a bad thing?

I made one of my best beers with windsor, a nice english pale that went from 1054 to 1012. Re-hydrated the yeast and fermented under temp control. Not sure what the attenuation is as the calc i found says apparent 77.8 and actual 63.3. I'll deffo be using it again

    Pid Supplier? Cheap n Good....

Guess you mean PIDs and I don't think sestos do ramp and soak. Do you have any info on the comms to there controllers btw as I noticed you mentioned modbus in one of your posts, I've done quite a lot of coding with modbus over TCP but not dabbled in serial yet so would be interested in giving it...

Easiest way to sterilise 40 odd bottles

How do you keep the water boiling in your sink? Just use videne, a bottle squirter and a bottle tree

    Is my tun too big?

I've just used my 50l thermopot for a 20l batch and although it looked a bit empty it worked great, it lost about half a degree over the 90mins. Just make sure to pre-heat properly. When I upgrade my boiler and hlt in the future I'm going to get 70l pots

    HERMS and sparging

Interesting ideas, I've often wondered where the ratio comes from. Might be worth seeing if aleman would mind popping his head in and explaining it for us
