Brilliant! Happy to chat more off forum - I don't think I can "PM" you, so try e-mailing me on [email protected], or if that plays up, [email protected] and we can swap contact details.

    Towy Homebrew Club

Hi all, particularly jaffab! Sorry the e-mail bounced - not sure what happened, but my account does seem flaky at times. The Towy Homebrew Club is a bit like Schroedinger's cat at present. We were pottering along pre Covid, then like everyone else, aspects of life went on hold. One of our...

My wort is fermenting on its own

At a guess, rain helps suppress dust circulation?

    Towy Homebrew Club

I am pleased to announce that the Towy Homebrew Club has been set up after a successful inaugural meeting on 28 August. We are based near Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire. The group has decided to concentrate on improving / learning to brew beer and hedgerow wines – we won’t be tackling cider, as...

Good luck - experimentation is what its about! Just about to bin a failed experiment of mine......

    New inexperienced brewer

Hi Luke, When barrelling, I'd recommend a thin layer of food grade silicone grease, which helps the seal around the tap and top. Use the stuff the same consistency as vaseline, not a spray. Its on eEbay cheaply. You'll need to change your seals from time to time as well as they wear out or...

Buffalo 40L pre purchase question for existing owners

Hi I would be grateful for some prepurchase advice regarding the Buffalo 40 L cc193 boiler as at http://www.nisbets.co.uk/asset/en/media/user%20manual%20cc190_cc191_cc192_cc193_ml_a5_v4.pdf I am currently using an old Swan urn boiler with a 3 kW exposed element. Ignoring the problems...

    Thoughts of the day......

If a tree falls in the forest when there's no philospher there to hear it, does anyone give a damn?

    Vegitarian finings

I'd wondered about filters (no more cheating than using finings I suppose), but along with the suggestion about racking into another vessel post egg white, doesn't that remove the benefits of cask conditioning? I'd got the impression that once you knock the yeast out of suspension, you have to...

    Vegitarian finings

Muddydisco - thanks for that - I hadn't thought of Vege-Gel (is that an algenate?). What dosing did you use - I take it it worked? Tubby-Shaw - just a quick follow up if I may. Does using egg white introduce a "life" issue into the brew - will it still keep for months, or does it need to be...

    Vegitarian finings

Thanks Aleman (or is it IeMan now?) IIRC - if I recall correctly? New one on me! Do wine finings (winings?) work on beer? Logically I suppose no reason not to, but I can foresee issues with SG and carbonation influencing efficiency. I was aware of blood being used as wine finings (finding...
