    Youngs definitive bitter

Just a little update on the 'Young's Definitive bitter', it's now seven weeks since i started this brew, and as time progresses this has turned out to be a very accepitible drink. It is now very clear and with a good head, and the 'off flavour after taste' that was evident earlier has now...

Brewing Woodfordes Wherry and some Special TC

Hello Caerleon, The wherry is a complete kit, ie a 'two can kit', no added sugar neccessary, you only add extra sugar to the 'one can kits' usually. The Wherry bitter is a lovely brew as well, just give it plenty of time to ferment out properly 8/10 days. :thumb: Jeff.

WOODFORDE'S WHERRY - FIRST EVER BREW!

Three days sounds a little short for carbonation, i'd leave it a few more days in the warmth.

    Coopers Real Ale

Well i just dropped my hops in my primary fv, although theirs still the odd bubble coming up and gravity at 1009, would the addition of the hops at this stage inhibit full fermentation? cheers Jeff.

    Coopers Real Ale

Right i finished up using that batch as fertiliser for the shrubs! But onwards and upwards :thumb: , i have started another 'Coopers real ale' and it has been fermenting happily for over a week now with the gravity down to 1009 and it seems to be about done fermenting. I need a little help...

    bleach dilutions

I've just started going down the bleach road myself, and with the little bit of digging i've done the ratio seems to be: 2ml/ltr long steep, or 5ml/ltr short steep with thorough rinsing.

    Coopers Real Ale

Well i checked the gravity this morning and no change, so decided to rack into another fv with some hops. Once i'd done this i tried a sample , and it had tart off taste, and was also very cloudy. I'm thinking i may have lost this one :( , although i'd tried to do everything per...

    Coopers Real Ale

After checking it tonight, it's down to 1015, and thats virtually eight days in fv. Do you think it would be benificial to drop it into another fv, i was thinking about dropping a bag of hops in there as well... or would it be better leaving it where it is for a few more days? Cheers.

    Coopers Real Ale

Just checked gravity and it's 1020, so my previous reading of 1016 must have been a misread as it's definately 1020 now. :hmm: On lookng inside the fv they doesn't seem to be any activity, so i've shot some 'yeast nutrient' in, and gave it a little stir. I would of pitched a yeast restart in...

    Temperature question?

Hello, I'm new to wine/cider making, so apologies for what may seem like a silly question  , but anyway here is my query: When adding the yeast to the juice mixture, what would be the optimum temperature of the juice to do this? Thankyou, Jeff.

Grapefruit juice 100%- not from concentrate.

Hello, I picked up a few of these cartons at the local heron shop, and was wondering if anyone here has a recipe for 'grapefruit wine'. I only got 5L of the stuff, so would only be a small batch. I did look through the forums, so sorry if i missed something there. Cheers. Jeff.

    Coopers Real Ale

Cheers for reply Prolix, was just a bit concerned the way it's slowed to a virtual stop. I will leave it and see if it ferments out then. :thumb:

    Coopers Real Ale

Hello all, On my third brew at the moment which is a Cooper's real ale kit, everything started off well with an SG of 1042, with a lively 48 hours of activity in the fv, but then it seemed to pretty much stop. So on the third day i had a look in the fv and it was pretty quiet, with a gravity...

Extract Brewing, Stout brew walk through.

Great 'how to' Tubby, :thumb: Just one newbie question, after dechlorinating the water in the boiler, is the water brought to the boil before you add the dme, or do you desolve it in the unheated water before power is applied? Thankyou, jeff.
