    no airlock, no problem?

I have made 3 brews now, all in a fermenting bucket with no airlock. All have turned out fine, I don't open it up too often, but did take a peek every now and again. I think it probably does slightly increase chance of contamination, but just use common sense and I'm sure it'll be fine.

    first time kegging.

Any reason why you carbonated usin gas as supposed to a secondary fermentation? Just asking out of interest.

To stir or not to stir?

Hi, I'm pretty new to this so may not have the most accurate advice, but the method I used does so far seem to have given consistent results. Instead of putting priming sugar into a bottling bucket siphoning on to that and then siphoning into bottles - put 0.5-1 tsp (I used 0.5 and carbonation...

    Kegged too early??

Sneaked a taste of this brew tonight - a little early than probably should have, but tasted really great, a little too carbonated which may have resulted from legging to early, but nothing that wouldn't settle out. Proper hooked now, have the next lot in the FV!!!

    Pitching yeast onto foam

Hi All, Sorry, yet more inexperienced waffle!!!!! I started a stout kit yesterday and by the time I had finished aerating it it had built up a fair bit of foam on the top. When it had got to the right temperature I pitched the yeast onto the foam and some of it just sat there. I thought...

    Chocolatifying a Stout kit

Ah, good to know Joeyriles - did you find any problems with head retention etc because of the increased fat content? Guess there's no accounting for taste Cwrw666

    Chocolatifying a Stout kit

Hi All, Not sure if I will actually try this yet, but my next kit I'm going to put on is a stout. I've had the Young's double chocolate stout before and really liked it, I just wondered if anyone had any idea if you could give a similar sort of taste to a stout kit? I know brewers can use...

    Dripping barrel tap

Turned the tap a bit last night so it wasn't fully closed and there were still a few drips there this morning. Wanted to condition a little longer before taking any beer out to see if a little drop in pressure would help. Sorry I know this is such a trivial problem, just find it a bit annoying!!!!

    Dripping barrel tap

Hi All, I just wondered if this was a problem or not. I haven’t actually used a pressure barrel before, have only used bottles. I transferred my beer from FV to pressure barrel about a week ago, since then I have noticed that a small amount of beer is dripping from the tap (not the seal...

    Kegged too early??

Hi, I left it in the fermenting bucket for 9 days, this was why I assumed it would be ok as the instructions said something like 4-6 days, but have now read advice suggesting should be more like 14 days, that's why I thought it may be best to check. Yes also added 85g of sugar for the secondary...

    Kegged too early??

Hi all, bit of a novice at homebrewing, have done one batch and bottled it, which turned out pretty well. Just done my second batch recently and used a pressure barrel instead. However I'm a bit worried I may not have left it quite long enough in the fermenting bucket and didn't have a...
