Brew 2 - Youngs American Amber Ale questions

@tefkab Sorry for not being around for a while, only just read your comment. The comment I made was a joke haha, but on further thought it might not be a horrible idea to use a tea strainer. I'm fairly new to the hobby myself so I'm not entirely sure how it'd affect the pouring of the...

    Hi From sunny Torbay Paignton

Ahh you wouldn't want to put the owoccy syrup in your beer! :O haha. It's used to make it's own type of brew, think alcohol-ade (insert fruit flavor for alcohol) http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11464 is the recipe for the syrup drink. For the cerveza, I'd suggest getting a...

    Hi From sunny Torbay Paignton

Hi from Plymouth (Used to live in Paignton/Torquay!) Welcome to the forum, you'll get a lot of help from everyone here. I did the Wilko Cerveza, and that was really nice after a while conditioning. Have you looked at maybe doing a WoW or doing the owoccy syrup route for a sweeter drink? I...

Brew 2 - Youngs American Amber Ale questions

Bottled mine yesterday, bit of an experience! First time siphoning with hop residue everywhere. Word of advice, get a muslin bag or something over your siphon. Thinking I may have to pour through a tea strainer when this has conditioned haha. But it did smell, and taste, rather good so still...

    dark coffee ale

Had a Mocha beer last night, picked up a couple of different ones from Sainsburys, and it was bloody lovely! Chocolate and coffee, could really smell and taste the chocolate but the coffee bitterness was nice.

Brew 2 - Youngs American Amber Ale questions

Haha funny you should post this today, I've literally just come back from my LHBS and picked up their last AAA! Was popping down to get the Festival Golden Stag kit, but saw this and caved as it's one I've wanted to get on for a while. My wherry is bottled now, didn't risk the new keg. Will...

    Possible Wherry infection?

Just what I wanted to hear, this is only my third brew so still fairly cautious about things. My main concern was that this didn't happen to my first Wherry. Would it be worth skimming the stuff off the top first, or just carry on and siphon to bottles and avoid it best I can?

    Possible Wherry infection?

Hey all, Just wanted to grab an opinion...I'm hoping I'm worried for nothing here, but put a Wherry on a couple of weeks ago and finally checked it this evening as going to bottle tomorrow. It looks...odd! Weird brown bits floating on top and some sort of scum as well. Hoping this isn't an...

    Sunny Devon

Ahh happy days, used to be in Torquay until I moved down for uni. Sounds like you've got an awesome set up going on up there. What has been some of your best brews you've done? Only done a few myself so far, and already looking in to perhaps extract or even moving up to all grain at some...

    Sentimentality

Keep them, I'm sure you'll have some more brews on soon! Be interesting for you to see the taste difference after a few months conditioning I'd bet :) Plus you're not going to miss two bottles now are you?

    Raspberryade

How come you're not going to fizz them? I think they're lovely over ice with a nice bit of fizz to go with, but that's just personal preference I guess. Be interesting to try it flat perhaps, you planning to use as a mixer or solo?

    Raspberryade

You'd be correct sir! Picked up a strawberry and a black cherry flavour. Rather excited as I now have about 6 bottles overall of various ones I'm going to be getting on over the course of the next few months. Hoping to have a stock ready for BBQ season :D Need to get back down there soonish...

    Third brew!

Well after my Wherry disaster and losing the brew to a leaky keg, I finally got around to getting another batch on this evening, thanks to Muntons for sending me a new kit! Usual malarkey, OG of 1040/1042ish (was very bubbly and only a quick check) so hoping these next few weeks fly by and I...

    Wherry- my first brew.

Just got my second wherry on this evening, lost my first brew due to leaky keg....Ah well, only a couple of weeks fermenting....and then bottling this time around....and conditioning....so long to wait!!

    polish syrup in lidl

Which flavours did you find? Just bottled my raspberry and lemon flavour this evening, could do with getting another couple of batches on :)

    Raspberryade

It went very clear! Was very impressed, though I think maybe another week or two in the bottle would sort out the remainder. I bottled in various sizes, and the larger bottles tended to have a bit of cloudyness come the end. But overall very nice.

    Wilko Cerveza

Ahh yes, the flatmates have had a sample already and I don't think its going to last much longer. Will have to get another brew on ASAP and get it bottled. Think there might be a few of these on the go before summer gets here :)

    Home brew disasters??

Kegged my first brew, a Wherry, a few weeks back. All was going well, was having the odd tester pint here and there and was starting to be lovely (On the advice to release the build up of pressure) Well I ended up with the flu for over a week, so didn't touch the barrel. Woke up one morning...
