Orange Bucket Brewing - A Brew Day

Evening all After a gap of...let me count it...six years and seventeen days, I am preparing to brew another batch of beer. I last brewed on 22 May 2011. Much water (and beer) has passed under many bridges since that date. Friends have come and, sadly, gone. Not sure anyone on here will...

    Well...I'm back!

Not sure who is here who will remember me though? I'm Jon from Stokesley, North Yorkshire. Long time home brewer. Winner of Spring Thing 2011...I think, or it could have been 2010? How time flies. Set up a part-time 6bbl brewery in Leeming in 2011 (Rough Draft Brewing Co). Got made...

Spring Thing is in the fermenting vessel

Happy to report that 520 litres of Spring Thing has been brewed today and is now sitting in the fermenting vessel with ample quantities of WLP002. Should be ready to drink in three weeks. OG into the FV was 1.0488...I was looking for 1.048 so I am pleased with that. The late addition of hops...

From BeerReviewsAndy: Rough Draft - Meet The Brewer Q&A

From www.beerreviews.co.uk... Andy seems to be a really good chap and it is a really nice website. See Here Just some background and some news about Spring Thing. Got made redundant from the day-job today...perhaps it's a sign and I will have time to spend brewing. Take care Jon @ Rough Draft

Isinglass - what's going on here then?

On Saturday I made up a couple of test samples to assess my isinglass batching rate. 1 pint with 1ml of isinglass 1 pint with 2ml of isinglass At 10C within a few hours it became obvious that the ideal rate was somewhere between the two and so I dosed with 1.38ml per pint. I then went away...

    My new brewery...

Here it is... Installed on Monday and Tuesday this week. First brew is in the second vessel from the left. I tweaked the recipe for the beer I entered into the Ordinary Bitter class at the recent Spring Thing competition to make this one. 560 litres of pure happiness...and quite a bit of...

When is the next "get together"?

I need some beer and, as Alan Partridge would say, some chat. What can we arrange for the summer? Jon

    Something, Something, Something...Goldings.

Inspired by Peter Griffin. Sunday morning brewing. Water treatment: KH test 0.86 = 0.80 meq/L…x 50 = 40mg/L of CaCO3. This gives 4ml of CRS (is it worth it?) and 21g of gypsum in the HLT…always worth it! 2.6g of calcium chloride in the mash. 5g of epsom salts in the copper. Up at...

    Open fermentation: How much CO2...

I am currently drawing up plans for a 10bbl brewery. I want to experiment with open fermentation but a comment by Ted Bruning has caught my eye. In his book, The Microbrewers' Handbook, page 70, he reports that Richard from the Tring Brewery suggests that a drawback with open fermentation is...
