My first Red wine from grapes

hi, I was given about 20 kilos of over ripe, some mushy grapes last week. I crushed them and strained them the next day (got about 2 gallons of juice) but had no yeast so left them till now. I brought them indoors last night to get to room temp before adding the yeast but the must has started...

    Boiler Voltage Controller

This is the same as the one I got about 4 years ago. I built mine into a box. Two wires in from your wall outlet and two wires out to your boiler plus join the earth wire. The digital display shows the % of power from 0% to 100% up/down by the two white buttons. I actually wired the output to a...

    Boiler Voltage Controller

I bought a voltage regulator from China on eBay. Works like a dimmer switch but can handle up to 10000 watts. Easy to wire up too like a plug and controls the boil on my tea urn from a rapid boil to a very gentle simmer.

    Hop pellets

Thanks for the advice. I decided to leave it alone as I don’t intend drinking it till well into the new year so should settle by then. Next time I’ll do it differently.

    Hop pellets

Thanks for that. I’ll pour it back in to the fermenter through a sieve

    Hop pellets

hello, a quick question, I’ve just siphoned my latest wilko “summer ale”- which came with hop pellets- in to a barrel to condition. A lot of the dissolved hop pellets got sucked in to the barrel and are floating around. I’m just asking will they sink to the bottom in time or should I have...

    Wilko

I checked the dates And they’re well in date. They weren’t discounted or in a sale so I assumed they were priced wrong. I expected to be told £40 at the till but no, £20 for both. All the other wilko, coopers etc. kits were usual price.

    Compensation!

I just have a blister on my palm but as for jars getting tighter ? I don’t know how elderly people get on. People used to ask me to open jars but now I also struggle at 50 ish ish ish years old. Beetroot is good but I’m more a gherkin man myself.

    Compensation!

I don’t know if there’s such a thing as ‘home brewers hand’ but I think I’ve got it after doing up 40 plastic bottle tops.

    Water shortage brewing.

I only make beers from kits so don’t really understand the process of cooling water but I do a bit of distilling and the cooling water is recycled through a small pond pump into a water but. In this heat I would put a bag or two of ice into the butt. Also I have a water meter so wouldn’t want to...

What's the 1 bit of advice you wish someone had given you, which you'd pass on to a new brewer?

Be very patient. Buy plenty of supermarket cans while you wait for your brew to mature. (Am still learning this).

    Fruity beer advice

Thanks for the helpful reply’s. I’ll grate the zest off 3 grapefruits and a lemon, cut away the white pith and bin it, then chop the fruits and add add it to the fermenting bin. Might soak it all in vodka if I think I’ve got time. Won’t be until about half way through the ferment tho as I don’t...

    Fruity beer advice

hello, I’ve just started a Geordie lager kit but I’d like to give it a bit of a fruity twang for the summer. I tried a couple of the brewdog ‘Elvis Juice’ which had a strong grapefruit flavour and would like to achieve something similar. Is it a case of chopping up some grapefruits and letting...

    The down the sink thread
