    Open FV's in breweries

Hi folks, it just dawned on me that breweries often leave their FV open, what is the reason for this? If infections are so easy to get then surely they would be covering up?

Help needed making turbo fruit cider

My lady would like some fruit cider making, ready to drink in a month's time for some friends coming over. I will be brewing it in a demijohn. What's the best way to do this? Use mixed fruit juice instead of apple juice? Or both? Or use apple juice then use frozen mixed fruit to "dry hop"...

How long does yeast really last?

I went on a tour of the Lancaster brewery and the guide mentioned that they just keep their yeast refrigerated and reuse it, and have been for many years (can't remember how long he actually said) and he said that Sam Smiths yeast is over 200 years old. So how come you can only use yeast for...

Right, i was hoping to clear something up here. I've moved into a new place with the better half and the bills are pretty high for just two of us (currently trying to get this sorted with the energy company) SWMBO only allows the heating on half an hour at a time, and most days we don't bother...

Hi folks, my girlfriend decided to make some blackberry wine with blackberries picked from her mam's garden, she doesn't know how many she got, but she covered them in boiling water then mashed them up, then strained them into a bucket. I would say there is about 2 liters in there, what would be...

    Can you remember how much....

....hops were included in the youngs American IPA kit? For some reason I'm thinking 100g but that can't be right? I've done a quick google search and come up with nothing regarding how much hops are included

    What on earth is this?!

So I've recently moved to carlisle and there are these little flies all over the house, you go outside and get harassed by them relentlessly! I never had anything like this when I lived in the North East so presume they are a bit native to cumbria? Hopefully someone can tell me what they are....

    Transfering from bottle to keg?

Hi folks, I have a youngs IPA all bottled up and ready, been working my way through it for a couple weeks now. But I've just got a mini keg system and was wondering if I could open a few bottles and put them in a keg? Would that work? Or will it need to be primed again in the keg? Just a...

    Cheap whiskey

So I got some cheap and nasty whiskey, bourbon to be exact, and my question is, if I mix it with some sort of fruit juice in the bottle, how long would it last? Basically making a whiskey punch. It's undrinkable as it is so I would probably just send it down the drain if it won't keep in the bottle.

Cooling method? And, which is cheaper...

...gas or electric? I'm very happy with brewing small batches ie 5ltr at a time, so I can try out different recipies more often. I just boil on the kitchen hob ATM but was wondering if making a boiler with kettle elements would be more cost effective than using the gas? Also, is there...

Hi folks, anyone know where I can get hold of a Samuel Adams perfect pint glass in the UK? Found some on eBay from America but the shipping is more than the glass. I've been on the hunt for a pint glass that's 'just right' for some time now and I've finally found it and can't seem to get one...
