Hello all - new member and first WOW on the go.

Certainly is! Let's see if you feel the same after bottling. I absolutely hate doing it. My real negative with home brewing

Hello all - new member and first WOW on the go.

Did you taste it when you took an SG reading? When it gets close to 1.000 I tend to taste it. If it's to your taste then rack and stabilise it. If you like it dry keep it going. For a sweet wine I stabilise it somewhere between 1.000 and 1.010

    Wine buddy kits

I opened a bottle of the zinfandel tonight. It had been sitting in the fridge for weeks. There is a fair amount of sediment on the bottom rock solid. And the wine itself tastes slightly better. Less dead yeasty taste and sweeter. So maybe it might be 'quaffable' after a fee more.monthd...

    BrewFanatic's Red Grape & Cherry

    1st WOW

That's correct i used Tesco Ashbeck 5L water bottle to brew. And have done a few times since. Works a treat and you get good quality water to boot. What i did was i drilled a hole in the cap big enough to fit the black rubber o ring (same ones used on the Young's FV lids) and put an airlock...

    1st WOW

I think next I'm going to try the RGJ and Apple juice route for a rose. Do a 1gal first. I am more and more disinterested in doing kits now. They don't taste as good as WOWS. Haven't tried country ones yet though I don't have the patience for it

    1st WOW

Hi guys, finally bottled this lot tonight. Tastes slightly sweeter which perhaps i could have left it longer before stabilising. But, having said that, it has loads more flavour and more full bodied. I easily feel if i added water to 6 Gallons i would have got away with it. One to note, its...

    BrewFanatic's Red Grape & Cherry

Yeh I mean as in juice. I have an apple RGJ and tesco ruby fruits batch on. It's red but not quite deep red like a red wine is. Tasty though I've yet to find a good red wine kit so was wondering if there was a good juice wine that makes a deep red? What about RGJ and blackcurrant? Or...

Will have a look in Iceland at the weekend. Any recommendations for a good red wine?

    BrewFanatic's Red Grape & Cherry

I saw that. I'm just trying to find red grape juice. I only have an asda tesco or aldi within reach. I have only found ( and bought ) purple grape juice not sure if it's the same?

    BrewFanatic's Red Grape & Cherry

Bottled this at the weekend. Got 5 bottles and it's not as dark as I expected. More of a deep rose colour. It tastes 'ok' but I think it's more to do with the possibility of me not being too keen on the cherry flavour.

    1st WOW

The 5gal batch is clearing as we speak. Should be ready to bottle any day now. Just waiting to pluck up the energy to sanitise and bottle 30! Early days yet but it tastes exactly the same as the 1st batch so I'm happy

    Degassing Wand

I've seen that tool Chippy. My only concern is the metal rod ( if it is metal) as I would rather use 100% plastic

    Wine buddy kits

The zinfandel has been bottled now for over a month and has seemed to improve none. Maybe you are right maybe it is just the taste buds. I won't be getting this kit again I'm afraid. My advice would be if you are going to try this brand then buy the 6 bottle kit first before going big

    Degassing Wand

The tools her used in this video is completely different to the wands im using. Having said that, the 'whisk' like tool he uses looks really good. Anyone point me in the right direction? Edit to add:- The wand works beautifully in 1gal glass DJs, the issue lies in using it in 5GAL buckets

    Wine buddy kits

Bottled the Sav Blanc kit last night. It tastes better than the Zinfandel kit of the same range hut the same taste is still there. Once I finished bottling I went to clean the FV and it's that smell of dead yeast that I can taste in both wines. Much less so in the Sav Blanc I admit

    Degassing Wand

I will try that stirring in the other direction to the wand suggestion. There is a version for 5Gal buckets going on the web but its costly at nearly 20 quid

    Degassing Wand

I have a degassing wand. Exact same shape as the one in Chippy Tea's DIY version on this forum, here is how to make one - https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/degassing-wine-the-quick-and-easy-way.48971/ It works beautifully in 1GAL DJ's but in a 5 gal FV or bucket, it doesnt really do...
