    Tilt/Grainfather temperature anomalies!

Just getting back in to brewing after some time away. A few days ago, I put a Pilsner into the GF fermenter and dropped in a tilt, just as I have done many times over the past few years. I am using a Gcast to send readings to the GF app to monitor and control the brew. This time I am noticing...

    Sonoff Brewpiless with pressure transducer.

I use brewpi with a tilt and Brewfather, plus a fermentasaurus under pressure, and would love to build a controller with Brewpiless, sonoff and pressure transducers. I built an ispindel that brewed 15 brews and died after a leak but now need to up my game in terms of control. I can find a lot...

    Steaming Rancor

I have just been inputting the above recipe from David Carpenter's book "Lager" into Brewfather so i can brew it next week. It uses WLP 810 which tolerates higher temps than a lot of lager yeasts. For the ferment he states pitch at 16 and allow to free rise to 17 and hold for 7 days. He then...

Sonoff Wifi Control of fermentation fridge

I have been looking at using Sonoff to control the lighting and other things in the house using the house Wifi. Whilst looking at the different products they make, i see they make a temperature controlled switch and the temperature probe is water proof - which could go straight in the brew...

    Ashbeck Water

I have heard many people say how good a Lager made with all Ashbeck Water is! Recently i have made Bohemium Pils (wyeast 2124) with 10l of Ashbeck to 22l of my tap water. 10l is perfect for my water to bring the Calcium down to 50ppm which i havent adjusted - i just adjust the KH. I have also...

    Thermocouples for Mash Temp

I use a v2 Brew Devil and i am keen to get a better understanding of my actual Mash temperature - rather than the temperature of the wort as it flows over the temperature sensor in the bottom of the boiler. I use a k type thermocouple with a stainless probe for checking boiling temps etc...

    Bohemian Pilsner

I have made two Bohemian Pilsners from Greg Hughes' book. One four weeks ago and one i have just kegged - both conditioning at 3c. Both are hazy - protein haze i guess as they both clear on warming. I used 10l of Ashbeck plus 22l tap water so Calcium was about 50ppm. I guessed that they...

    Di-acetyl Rest

Brewing the Bohemian Pilsner from Greg Hughes Book with Wyeast 2124 @ 12c. Its 3 days in with 40%+ attenuation. I now have to go away for a week. It will be day 10 of fermentation before i can raise temp and it may have stopped. Is it then too late to raise temperature, or should i raise and...

    Alpha Acids

I am sure that this has been asked many times. If i have a recipe that calls for Saaz at 4.2% and i have Saaz at 2.4%, is it as simple as using the direct ratio, and using 1.75 * the weight, or are there other factors at play here?

    Using Protofloc

Just done my 5th brew in my Brew Devil. Each time, i have used protofloc 10-15 mins before end of the boil. I get heavy coagulation during the old break and this in turn clogs the filter on the drain tap as i empty to fermenter. Am i using too much protofloc (1 tablet) or does everyone else...

    Cornies with handles

I have seen a few people talk of using beer engines with Cornies. Presumably there is a small pressure applied to take up space when dispensing. Do you do a full carb - draught has less fizz? What pipe sizes are used as engines normally have larger pipes? Or is it just a bad idea!!

    Ist Brew Devil Brew

Did my first brew with the Brew Devil yesterday - A simple bitter from Graham Wheeler's book. Recipe was for 19l and gave total volume as 26.6l and Mash volume of 8l. I added the dead space below the tun of 7l and mashed 15l. I then sparged with the balance to make up to 26.6l. I had to add a...

    Wyeast 2042 Danish Lager

I see that 2042 has been discontinued, anyone got any ideas for something similar?

    Fans in Fermatation Fridge

In the middle of building a fermentation from a fridge, and saw a video on u-tube of one with a couple of computer fans in it. Is it worth the effort in such a small place? I get the impression that most don't bother.

    Stirrers

Hi All In the middle of building a stirrer. Using a computer fan and a 12v supply. I notice a lot of the build descriptions on the net don't include any speed control. Firstly, do you think speed control is necessary? and secondly, if you do, what size potentiometer are you using? TIA...

    Lager Books.

Hi All I am new to the group, and intend to get back into home brewing this year. It is thirty years since I last brewed ales and I am amazed at how equipment and techniques have improved. I will probably end up with a Brew Devil 30. I recently acquired a copy of Graham Wheeler's, British...
