    Ok.....i need you all

Not really, I tend to hop a little more for bittering but not significantly more. If anything the two 90 min boil beers are better than the 2 hour one I have at the moment.

    OK, admit it...

I haven't lost the novelty yet and my first brew was a Boots Stout Kit when I was 14 (I was off school after having been sick and as it was Friday Mum said an extra day off would do me no harm) I found the Kit and made it up for Dad and when it was done he let me have a shandy with him. I am...

    Ok.....i need you all

I wouldn't call it a tip as such but my brewing apprenticeship was under the tutorship of the first edition of the Graham Wheeler "Brew Your Own Real Ale at Home" with a 90 minute mash and a 2 hour boil for bitters and even a 2 hour mash and a 2 hour boil for Stouts and Old Ales. I have now...

    Pilsner IPA type of thing

Thanks For that Jceg plenty to try out there then. I becoming more interested in yeast at the moment so there's a few things to go at.

    Pilsner IPA type of thing

Sounds Like it AJT, I'm after something that drinks well chilled but without having to mess about lagering a beer.

    Pilsner IPA type of thing

I haven't quite sorted my recipe yet but I'm planning a beer made with lager malt, carapils, and a mix of Perle Tettnang and Mittlefruh hops and using an M44 in one and either a US05 or a M36 in the other. Both will be identical apart from the yeast. (I might also do one with a Safale T58 too...

    Another Liquid Discussion

Thanks Folks, I'll probably try some of the more specific yeasts for Belgian stuff but stick to dried for the more mundane brewing.

    Another Liquid Discussion

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of using a few liquid yeasts in the coming months. I would just like a couple of bits of advice please. The first and most obvious (and probably most contentious) Wyeast or White Labs? It's probably a question of preference rather than anything else but I...

    What are the advantages of...

I used a few of the wyeast cultures shen they first came into the country and found them really good but not good enough to cover the extra expense, bearing in mind they were six quid (15 50 years ago) to just over a quid for either Gervin Ale or Safale (there was only one back then). However I...

    First time Woodford Wherry

That's a bit warm really, you might find the temperature swing will make it end up tasting rather Belgian on you. If you are concerned then wrap a damp towel round it in the morning it will keep it more stable.

Time, simple as that, Wherry will clear but it will take 3 to 4 weeks at least.

    Cider yeast... Totally necessary?

I would have thought one sachet should do two DJ's I use one in a 5 gall batch.

    Cider yeast... Totally necessary?

I've used everything from cheap "beer yeast" to proper cider yeast and even wine yeast, to be honest I think the cider yeast was the best but only marginally. Add the pectolase at the beginning.

Huging my Pillow (well that got your attention)

I can't really complain about the Tea Bags, the beer is well balanced and certainly the hops come through okay in the bottling day sippers, I wouldn't use them except as dry hops if I bought the Finishing hop sachets from Boyes because they tend only to be supplied in those small 12g packs...

Huging my Pillow (well that got your attention)

Well a couple of weeks or so ago I won one of the "Get Er Brewed" Single hop variety kits and chose and Amarillo. I have reviewed this on their site but thought I would spread the news a bit. The quality of the ingredients in the kit was second to none. There was a huge malty aroma from...

    hobgoblins question thread

How long is a piece of string. I use King Kegs and really like them especially with the new black taps. The top tap system has a little float that sits on the top of the beer and draws the ale from there. I have never had a beer go of in a pressure barrel, indeed I had a three year hiatus from...

Smell Good (interesting (well to me))

Okay this has just gone into bottle, (I did decide to add a load of those finishing hops cos I had them it got 12g of Amarillo and Centennial and 24 g of Topaz. Cos I had them and as it was fermented with SO-5 it seemed opportune to use them). It seems as though it will be a really special...
