    Dextrose instead of liquid malt

Many thanks for your guidance and reply. Can I summarise that dextrose is better suited to brewing lagers delivering a “cleaner” taste, whilst an ale would benefit from a malt extract in deepening the flavour?

    Dextrose instead of liquid malt

Evening everyone, I am about to do a MJ Pale Ale kit and as I have a good stock of dextrose was thinking of using it instead of my normal MJ Malt Extract. The question I have is whether the dextrose needs dissolving in boiling water before adding to the FV or can it go in directly with the MJ...

    Beer Storage

Cheers for the advice….. I think a modified fridge is the way forward with an ink bird. That way i regulate and increase or decrease the temperature as required.

    Beer Storage

Hi everyone, So I have been home brewing now for some time and as I have quite a stock of beer I am looking for some advice on storing my bottles and kegs through the summer months. As such I want to get a dedicated fridge for the garage to put my IPAs in but not sure if It’s a good idea to...

New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring

I’m glad it wasnt just me! I’ve done over 30 brews and never had this problem before. The hop pellets had disintegrated into such small pieces it was causing havoc! It was like all the hops had become a ”mush” (See pic). The little bottler just kept getting blocked with hop particles which...

New range of kits from Muntons arriving in the spring

Has anyone had any issues with the dry hops blocking up the syphon when the bags over it as a filter? Mine kept getting blocked when I was transferring it to a second FV for adding the priming sugar and as such made it a painful task and now worried I’ve added a lot of O2 in the brew from...

    Mangrove Jacks LME.

Good question and one I too am curious over this. I generally add the 1.2kg because a) it’s cheaper and b) the pack advises adding 1.2kg so don’t see why you would a) want to pay more for the same product and b) end up throwing away .3kg of the product! Thats enough a) and b) from me!

Swing top bottles, lacking carb after refrigeration

Thats really interesting Victor as I spend ages filling and shaking and standing bottles in sanatiser before bottling. It always adds an hour on the bottling process. If I can just load the dishwasher, I can clean the bottles before cracking on with the priming into a second bottling FV...

Swing top bottles, lacking carb after refrigeration

Victor..... interesting you put the bottles through the dishwasher. Have you found this has any effect on the brew? Also do you sanitise them before filling?

    Coopers Euro Lager

Yeah I tried it before bottling from the sample tube and it tasted fine. There wasnt anything to cause concern in the taste and you could see how it would, after conditioning, be a euro lager in taste. I think its just that this is my first steps into brewing lager and coming from brewing IPAs...

    Coopers Euro Lager

Yeah I have the bottles and keg in the cupboard currently conditioning at 18 degs and will leave for two weeks before moving to the fridge for another two weeks, just as I would with any other brew. I have been monitoring the kegs and they are absorbing any CO2 under pressure so not too...

    Coopers Euro Lager

I mean it was like it already was carbonated... when I took a sample, there was bubbles rising in the sample tube. There wasnt any head when I racked it but was very concious of not disturning the brew too much so it was a gentle feed from the primary to the secondary and as such no chance to...

    Coopers Euro Lager

Hi there Looking for some guidence here as I have just bottled/kegged my Coopers Euro Lager after two weeks in the FV but noticed it was "fizzy" as i transfered it into a 2nd FV to prime and wanted to check why this was as this is my first lager so didnt know if this was normal ? I brewed it...

    Help with stuck lager

Yeah it’s a malt extract kit. All the ones I have done over the last few years have all fallen to anywhere between 1005 to 1010 and as this is the first lager one it does seem strange as it’s going to be about 2.9% ABV.

    Help with stuck lager

Hi, After brewing IPA’s and Pale Ales over the last few years I have the brewing process pretty much off to a tea and have got into a grove of churning out reliable brews. With the advent of unlocking coming up on 12th May and an up and coming family gathering, I thought I’d give a lager kit a...

    Oh it's busy

Superb comms and it’s great to hear of a growing business in these uncertain times. Honesty is always the best policy and as a consumer it’s a breath of fresh air to hear from a supplier. It can be only “Onwards and Upwards” for you guys. I moved over to you guys at the beginning of the year...

Can I part bottle part keg a brew

You should be fine and your not alone. With Christmas coming and handing out my brews as presents, what I have started to do is to move the brew into a second vessel and prime the whole batch in one go. Then syphon out the second vessel (FV) to fill a 10Litre Keg and the rest is bottled via a...

    When to cold crash?

I thought that they needed a few months to develop the flavours?i have been leaving kegs a couple of months to get the best from my brews. should I be diving in after 4 weeks and drinking ?
