    Carbonation & head formation

Hey guys, pretty basic question really... If my beer has poor head formation shortly after seecondary fermentation (say after 3 weeks in the bottle) does this mean it will always have poor head formation? Or is it not only related to the carbonation level of the beer? I am hoping that age will...

What does everyone do for cold conditioning in summer?

As title really, just wondering how people get around the warm conditions when trying to keep new beer cool? (assuming you dont have a dedicated fridge for it) My house is pretty much 20C all over at the monent, including my space under the stairs where until recently has been cooler. Out in my...

    Work in progress, Garage/Brewhouse!

This is my little ongoing project at the moment (little? ). A couple of years back we bought a new wooden garage to replace the old one which was falling to bits. The original was barely big enough for a car at 16x8 feet so i went for a 20x10 to give me some room to work at the back...

Coopers Old Dark Ale, St Peters Ruby Red

Has anyone tried the coopers dark ale? I couldnt find it mentioned in the beer kit reviews section but i'm considering doing this next, possibly with one or two modifications. I have been impressed with the early stages of the irish stout so thought a different dark ale would be a good one to...

    Stable FG but still bubbling?

My coopers irish stout has been in the FV for 2 weeks now, and despite the gravity being stable at 1.010 for about the last 4 days it's still bubbling in the airlock occasionally. Sometimes i wont hear it for hours but then i'll hear it 2 or 3 times 10 minutes apart. From searching on here it...

    Room temp, fermentation temp etc

I know some beers require different temps, but i have noticed that there seems to be an assumption that "room temperature" is about 22C which n the real world is quite a warm room/house. My own house sits at around 18-19C so i use an aquarium heater to brew at 22-24C, tho i have read a few posts...

    Question on carbonation drops

I have done a few brews now - coopers lager, cerveza and australian pale ale, all carbonated using the drops. The first 2 turned out well generally but i have had to tip the APA down the sink as after a few months its flat as a pancake and not really drinkable :( The lager and cerveza taste...

    Max time in the FV?

Due to me ordering the wrong bottles (crown cap tops when I didnt have a capper  ) and then further delays with the post after ordering a capping tool, my australian pale ale will possibly have been in the FV for 3 weeks by the time I can bottle it. Should this still be ok or is there...

    Christmas gifts sorted!

I think alot of people who know me will know what to expect for christmas :D Just started brewing a few weeks ago and will have this selection to give away, all being well with the brews as they age of course. I thought i'd make some labels up as a final touch as i'll be packaging them in...

First taste of first ever brew!

Well just had a pint of my coopers lager and i think i have to be pretty happy with it :D It has only been in bottles for 2 weeks so if it will only get better from here then it will be a very drinkable lager. Plenty of fizz and very crisp, it formed a good head which had disappeared by the...

Recommend me a nice next brew kit

Ok I'm a bit boring and predictable when it comes to what i drink - pretty much just lager, so my first 2 home brew kits were the coopers lager and mexican cerveza. The cerveza is in the FV now and im looking to buy something a little different for my next brew, so as a relative beer/ale novice...

Quick question before my first bottling!

Just did my final gravity check and my first brew is ready to bottle :D Just a quick question, i thought it best to clean the PET bottles that came with the kit despite it saying they were sanitised before sending, but is it vital that they are bone dry before filling? I know a wet glass can...

    Cardboard bottle carriers?

Has anyone come across somewhere that sells cardboard carriers like this one? There are a few places in the US but they all have huge minimum order sizes, I was just thinking of buying a few to give some of my brew as gifts for christmas. Cheers

    New brewer from Dundee

Greetings everyone, I'm Paul from sunny Dundee  Just started my first brew the other day and have been reading alot online, not expecting miracles with my first attempt but something drinkable would be nice! I bought a coopers lager kit and it appears to be fermenting away nicely so...
