    Ranco ETC sensor died

I have used and abused my Ranco sensor in various bits of brew kit over the years and the sensor is now dead:-( There are plenty of places in the US that sell replacements but I can't wait that long and the shipping/duty is a pain - is there anywhere in the UK that sells them?? FB

    Kumquats...it's that time of year

All the supermarkets should be stocking these little beauties for Xmas. Wash them, dice them, freeze them then add them to your wit bier boil instead if curacoa orange. IMO they are so much better than curacoa...not as bitter...and a bit cheaper. They are a good balance between sweet and...

    Oops...lazy boy mistake

Off to france 3 weeks ago and I had just cleaned up my boiler. I left the hop screen (stainless braid hose) in the bottom and chucked in what I thought was water. 3 weeks later I am just going to clean it up when I find the chrome (???) Off the element has been stripped leaving a lovely copper...

Spruce Tips - Get them now or they'll be gone

If you want to make a spruce ale now's the time to pick spruce tips. Just been for a walk with the dog and managed to collect 4litres of lovely soft fresh light green tips. I'm in Fife - further south (where Spring has been going for 4weeks extra) you may have to go deeper into the trees or the...

    Recirc loop for pump?

I have a mag coupled pump running from my HLT to Mash Tun. Can I add a recirc loop so that I can run it continuously? I was thinking of having a adjustable hand valve linking the output side of the pump to the input side. This would ricirc the water around the pump. When the output valve is...

Racking cane or SS tap for FV

I have a SS FV and wondering if it would be easier to fit a SS tap to it for racking off the beer to conditioning. I currently rack using a cane and it takes well...ages. Just wondering what is best? Will I be adding a possible point for contamination in my FV. I have plastic FVs with taps and...

Now putting a grist together for a BSDA...need some thoughts on the following grist make-up and help with yeast. I'm trying to get my head around brewing with the BJCP guidelines for comps - so I'm brewing the big beers now. 52% Pale Malt 31% Dark Munich 5% Belgian Aromatic 1% carafa special...

Hops are going to be bramling cross or progress (their in the freezer somewhere). Now I just need to go to the grocers and get the mystery ingredient and prep. it...

I've been lurking for too long...

Hello I've been a member for some time but never posted...Met some of you in Skipton so thought I'd contribute a bit more to the board. I've been full mash brewing for 13 years before that I had an unsuccessful stint at kits & partial mash (hey..I was a student). I originally made wines and...
