Using an "ACE" tea urn as a mash tun.

I understand that the new boiler is due out round about April time.

Using an "ACE" tea urn as a mash tun.

Ian at ACE e-mailed me to say that they are developing their mash tun/boiler so it provides accurate temperature control (hold at temps between 50 to 75oc - for the mash) and improve the thermostat to avoid cut outs and give it the ability to hold a rolling boil for 2 hours. They are...

I haven't bought one yet as i'm waiting until they bring out the modified version which I understand will be early next year.

    Ace electric boilers?

The new boilers won't be available until next year.b ut you're right the E-bay price has suddenly rocketed though I strongly suspect the price is an error as the mash tun boilers are generally around £100.00 - £120.00

    Ace electric boilers?

Hi Tony, I'm glad you sorted out your cut out issue. Ian at ACE has e-mailed me to say that they are developing their mash tun/boiler so it provides accurate temperature control (hold at temps between 50 to 75oc) and has the ability to hold a rolling boil for 2 hours. They are also...

Using an "ACE" tea urn as a mash tun.

I sent off an E-mail yesterday to 'ACE' regarding the boiler's tendancy to cut out for a short time during the boil period. This morning I received a reply from Ian at ACE which I hope will be of interest. I have to say i'm well impressed by their speedy and comprehensive response...excellent...

    Ace electric boilers?

I sent off an E-mail yesterday to 'ACE' relaying comments i've seen on various home brew forums about the ACE mash tun boiler's tendancy to cut out for a short time during the boil period. This morning I received a reply from Ian at ACE which I hope will be of interest. I have to say i'm well...

How do you get the yeast of a yeast slant please?

I used a slant for the first time the last week and exactly the same thing happened, the agar slant plopped into my cooled wort starter along with the dislodged yeast cells :o . I did go into a slight panic mode, quickly sterilised a suacepan and sieve, tipped the wort + yeast + agar through...

    Copper coil wort chiller

Hi all, having trawled the interweb and a few of the well known high street suppliers for copper coil, I thought i should give a big thumbs up to JTM Plumbing. I made quite a cost saving on copper coil and pipe fittings even with postage taken into consideration. :thumb...

    2nd AG brewday - Orfy's hobgoblin

It did save a lot of time fannying about with cutting slots / drilling holes in a copper pipe manifold. The cost equated to a length of copper pipe so no contest really and given the number of things i managed to get wrong when constructing my boiler, it was a releif to have something so simple...

    2nd AG brewday - Orfy's hobgoblin

Hi Mak, I did a BIAB variation of Orfys recipe and the result was very good indeed, I've now completed my first all grain, Graham Wheeler's black sheep ale which is now fermenting nicely. I fitted a Bazzooka filter into my cool box mashtun and boiler and so far both have performed better than...

Recommend me a beer (kit), please?

I would give my vote to 'Woodfordes Wherry'. It was my first ever home brew, simple and quick to do and resulted in a very quaffable session beer. Every glass put a smile on my face because I'd made it and it tasted soooooo much better than i had been anticipating. I've since progresed onto...

    Keg Presurisation.

Thank you all for the prompt responses. Curious to know what 'fobbing' is though :hmm:

    Keg Presurisation.

Hi Guys, I hope this is a simple question to answer: When using Co2 bulbs to increase the pressure in a keg, do you tend to leave the bulb in place preventing the escape of gas and potentially running the risk of over pressurising the keg, or do you detach the bulb as soon as the gas has...

    Hi from Malvern

Thanks for the welcome alchemy. My missus thinks I get more like a certain Mr. Meldrew each day. Personally I don't believe it!

    Hi from Malvern

Good God Pearlfisher, you have been busy! I'm only on my second brew. I used to make wine kits when i was a student, many years ago now, but i've not done anything since. I think I still have the demi-johns knocking about somewhere, probably lurking in the deep recesses of my garden shed. I've...

    Hi from Malvern

Hi Pearlfisher. We're very fortunate in having free spring water right on our door step. I've used it for both brews with no adverse effects. What have you brewed so far? The Nags Head is perhaps one of the best pubs in Worcestershire. Great atmosphere, great people and a wonderful range of...
