Hi, Have just been given as part of Bday present the very useful present of an FV with a tap at the bottom which will make racking easier. When I fit the tap do I need to put some sort of oil or grease on it i.e. vaseline? Also given a Festival golden Stag kit :D Do I need to bottle this or...

    15 year old beer kit!

At the weekend my father in law insisted he give me an old beer keg (which was actually good quality) as well as a bitter kit from Boots which he reckoned was 15 years old. He helpfully recommended not using the enclosed yeast sachet! Anyone reckon this beer kit will still be worth brewing? :?

If you are brewing St. Peter's ruby red ale

This has been in bottles for 2 weeks and 5 days and I can't wait to crack one open but checked today and they are still a bit cloudy. Is this normal for this kit?

    Plastic bottles from supermarket

Hi has anyone used the plastic 1 litre PET bottles you can get from the supermarket for bottling their brew? If so are they strong enough for this purpose? Usually juice bottles, ribena etc, they look and feel as strong as the PET bottles I bought previously.

I fell ill on Monday and have been pretty ill all week but now recovering. Actually went into hospital Weds night. Anyway to cut a long...

    Lubrication

The `cap' sorry for want of a better word of my keg says that I should lubricate the seal before use. Clearly I don't want to use an oil that will taint any beer I put in it, so what oils can I use? I was thinking olive oil maybe? Thanks

    Floaters!

Ok so about a week after bottling these little lumps appeared floating in a layer at the top of all of my bottles - there is a suggestion they could be bits of hop. Three weeks after bottling they are still there, although the beer (Midas touch) is the right colour and seems to have carbonated...
