AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

Update time. I racked this to secondary on 10th, after the krausen had dropped away. US05 just keeps going, it was at 1010 at this stage. I stuck it in the fridge after a week in secondary, to crash cool. Today I bottled it...47 bottles. I just measured the gravity, and it had dropped down to...

    BIAB sparge?

I've tried a couple of different methods. I BIAB in a 33l pot, so I can't get the full mash volume in. I used to take the bag out, balance it in a colander over an empty FV, open the top and trickle hot water onto the grain from above - as much like a 3-vessel style sparge as I could. Seemed to...

    AG #5 – Aleman’s Erdinger Clone - BIAB

Time for The Taste-off... On the right, the original Erdinger. On the left, the young pretender. The original has better head retention and is a lighter colour. It's got less aroma and less taste of banana/clove, but there's a more obvious wheat taste to it. Mine's less carbonated, but...

    AG #5 – Aleman’s Erdinger Clone - BIAB

After 1 week's conditioning, it's lovely :-) Another week might make it slightly more carbonated, but it's got persistent bubbles throughout the pint and a lovely banana flavor. The two test bottles that spent the last day in the fridge lasted not very long !

    Marzipan in beer

Marzipan is the devil's earwax. Why on earth would you let it anywhere near beer?!

BIAB Stockpot Hop Filter? Y or N

Great ! When you build it, take pics and write it up so I can copy you

BIAB Stockpot Hop Filter? Y or N

Have a search round the site, there's a few people have done this I think. Here's one http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=38011 I'm planning something similar but I boil on gas, so no elements for me.

BIAB Stockpot Hop Filter? Y or N

I'll be interested to see the answers to this...I'm currently doing BIAB in a 33l pot with no tap, and planning a bigger pot with tap and possibly filter. I looked at the bazooka-style filters, but I'm leaning towards the idea of a stainless hose filter round the circumference of the pot - that...

AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

I'm away this week because of work. Mrs. FB reports that my SNPA is sitting at a happy 18.4C, so I'll just have to leave it to its own devices till I get back. I should have set up a "beer cam" so I can keep an eye on it remotely..

AG#4. Clorty Miner - needed a new name...

I brewed the GW version earlier this year. Mine stuck fast at 1018 and refused to drop any further, so it became Thirty-Niner. Clearly there's something about this beer that makes it hard to brew something that we can still call Forty-Niner

AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

This is the first brew I've done in this FV, and it's kinda translucent - so you can see what's happening inside! It's mesmerising. Like a lava lamp in overdrive...little clumps (of yeast/protein ?) rising and falling constantly.

Well, someone left a bottle of Smirnoff in the house, and I don't drink vodka, nor does the missus - so I use it to swish out my mouth before syphoning. Seems to have worked so far :thumb: Once I got distracted and swallowed it by accident...yuk !

    Hops???

Nothing wrong with getting all the ingredients in one kit...one less thing to have to do on brew day. Just follow the recipe and you'll be fine. It sounds rather similar to the SNPA I've just brewed. If it is, don't forget the let the end of boil Cascade hops steep for 20 mins before chilling...

AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

Pics as promised. Lots of pics ! Mash on: Had real trouble with the temp on this one. It took me ages to dough in (6kg of grain, transferred jug by jug) so the temp was down to 64C by the time I'd got all the grain in. Fired up the gas to bring it back up...nothing...then 67-68C in spite of...

AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

And now there's 22l of lovely hoppy hot wort in the FV, in the bath full of cold water. I really need a chiller and a bigger boiler with a tap and hop stopper. Syphoning a hot wort full of hops is a right pain. Pics to follow once I've tidied up.

Right, water's on to boil, grain measured out. I notice that my recipe doesn't specify a mash temp. I was going to 66C but spotted another online recipe saying 68. Anyone who's already brewed this got a suggestion ? ta

AG#6 SNPA clone - now with pictures

Mrs. FB is working night shift so fast asleep now, I've got the run of the kitchen so here I go again. Water's measured out and campden tablet added. I might even take decent photos this time.

    AG #5 – Aleman’s Erdinger Clone - BIAB

As of 11pm, I have 36 bottles of this sitting warming up in the kitchen :thumb: I'll give it a week or so and then try one...

    AG #5 – Aleman’s Erdinger Clone - BIAB

Better late than never - I've finally got some pics uploaded. Bag out post-mash, draining into FV below. Syphoning hot wort into the FV, which then got stuck in a bath of cold water. The requisite trub shot. And as of yesterday before I started the cold crash All being well it gets...

    Feck Test!

My Thirty-niner, a Ringwood 49er that came out a little lighter than intended. Still lovely though
