    Kits I Wouldn't Brew Again

Ultimate Brewery Classics Surfers Reward Cornish Ale Beer Kit Suggested by my local HBS and was undrinkable. 2 tubs of malt extract and a sachet of hop extract and not cheap so was really hoping for a good beer. I’ll be avoiding this one in future, and my local HBS to some extent ☹️

    That awkward second lift

You can get some very sturdy 15L buckets from Malt Miller etc. They’re fine for stacking when full if you want to split a batch for fermentation, or for kitting out as a bottling bucket. Half the weight to lift!

    Freezing wort

I inadvertently froze 25L of wort solid when the thermostat on my brew fridge broke. It took 2 days to defrost but was otherwise fine. Ended up as a very nice beer!

    Blue Moon Clone

From the recipe above - “100g tettnanger 10 min boil - 30 mins flameout” I’ve got all the ingredients ready to give this one a go. Can I just check that this means bung ALL the hops in with 10 mins of the boil left to go, and leave for 30 mins after turning off the gas before cooling? Thanks!

Thanks AJA! I’ve got an Inkbird on order to hopefully stop this happening again.

    Cold crash disaster!

I put my fermentation fridge on low for a few days to cold crash and hold off bottling day until I had some free time. No, not making an ice beer, just a dodgy thermostat… I’m not sure how long 40 pints will take to thaw. I knew I’d be posting about a home brew disaster before too long!

    Razorback IPA
