    TESCO Apple Juice

In my local Tesco (Derby), the tag states that this particular 'special offer' runs until 30th January 2015. No rush lads!

    Mash Tun Upgrade Questions

Whilst I fully advocate getting the biggest shiny you can afford for future proofing purposes, Bergland do actually do a 38.5 litre thermopot: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Edelstahl-Thermo ... 58a985d3c0 I was in a similar position to yourself, having a cooler box with a 28litre capacity, which...

    Large fermenter temperature control

Lovely work there Andy. Where did you get your FV (sorry for going off-topic :/)

    Muntons Premium Cider

You can always back-sweeten with normal (tea/coffee) sweeteners or Splenda if you'd prefer a sweeter tipple. I always keg my ciders dry, but my dear old mother makes a crude light syrup out of sweeteners and hot water and adds a teaspoon of this mixture to round it off to her tastes.

    Boiler purchase

As Dennis has already stated; most folks DIY their own gear to keep costs down and to build up a brewery over time. Personally, I'd go down the gas route for a boiler as I do my boil outside, but electric can also be straightforward. I'm also of the thinking that I'd rather save my pennies and...

    First time nerves

I'm afraid your mother has introduced you into a world, from which you can never truly leave. Beer will never taste the same again!! But it sure is fun!

    Link for thermo pots.

True, but on a Thermopot it's the frickin' balls ;)

    Show us your pressies

Nothing directly beer-related; a bottle of Jameson's, a place on a foraging course in April, and some Truefitt & Hill Grafton shaving cream.

    Link for thermo pots.

+1 for Bob's suggestion of a bottom drain. It's a bit of a faff to get things fitted up and leak free, but if you're getting someone else to do it, great! If not, it's not beyond the realms of most DIY'ers. Both Vossy and Bob's how-to and various posts on the matter supplied me with the...

    Yeast Slant Test Tubes

Cheers Papa G. Just placed an order on a link following on from yours for 18 x 48ml tubes in a rack. Superb job. Many thanks.

    Yeast Slant Test Tubes

Thanks for the info. Sadly it only brings up polystyrene universals, and they are not able to withstand a session in the pressure cooker. The search continues...

    Yeast Slant Test Tubes

I'm struggling to find any 30ml or 50ml Polypropylene test tubes/vials for my first forays into slanting. Can anyone here point me in the direction of some please? My Google powers have fallen short, and I can't find anything on ebay that looks suitable. Today's attempt at 'autoclaving' in a...

    What's the difference?

Thanks Ed. It seems as though a good book may be in order if I embark upon this yeasty path!

    Drilling thermopots

On my recent thermopot job, I used a Starrett cutter bought from Screwfix. I had used cobalt bits in stainless before, and the arbour on the Starrett blitzed the stainless just like it. The hole saw wasn't shoddy either. Recommended certainly, although I'm not sure they'd have the longevity of a...

    What's the difference?

Rightly of wrongly, I've decided to pursue the liquid yeast route by pitching a vial of WL East Midlands into a demijon with 4 litres fresh wort (at1.046) from yesterday's brew to bring it on and harvest as outlined here; http://uk-homebrew.tripod.com/id46.html My confusion lies in why...

    Threaded 1/2" BSP Stainless Pipe/tube

Cheers Bob, I'll have a poke about tomorrow. Failing that I reckon I'll be buying a die and doing it myself.

    Threaded 1/2" BSP Stainless Pipe/tube

I'm on the lookout for a stainless 230mm length of 1/2" BSP male x male pipe (essentially a long nipple of sorts). Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier please? Cheers :)

Taking a hobby bit too far?

I wonder if I can stretch to it out of December's pay packet? Nah, probably not :( Not far from me though, I'm only in Mickleover.
