    Light and Hoppy...Blackberry beer??

I've previously brewed a very light and hoppy beer, something like Oakham's Citra or Green Devil (OK, it was a total disaster due to my mash temperature being way out of whack but in principal it worked), and am thinking of doing another one but this time with the addition of a whole load of...

Storing Hops...have I ruined all my Hops?

I've not brewed for around 6 months due to time constraints but I'm not worried because all my ingredients are well stored, or so I thought. I've got 5 different types of Hops that I'd brought dried for different brews I did last year and they're all nicely stored in airtight Kilner jars...

Is too much yeast a problem?

It's too late now and I forgot to ask this question in my Yeasty Experimentation thread (http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=15046) but is it a problem if you put too much yeast in during primary fermentation? Each FV has around 4.5L of wort in it but I've used full yeast...

    Measuring SG using capacitance...Arduino brewing

I'm looking to improve on my current Magic Beer Fridge (fridge & light bulb thermostatically controlled) by doing a second build out using the Arduino processor board. I should be able to replicate the temperature control with no problems, be able to feed into from sensors to a database...

    Yeasty experimentation

After a chat with a friend last week about the difference different types of yeast make to brewing I've decided to run a little experiment this weekend. I've brought 6 5L demi-johns and 4 different types of yeast (to go with the couple I've already got) and am intending to brew this weekend...

    Pocket Refractors, any good?

Brew UK sells a Pocket Refractor http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/refractor.html (or would if they were in stock) to replace hydrometers. I've got a couple of questions. 1) does anyone else sell these? (a search I've done comes up empty) 2) does anyone on here use them and are they any good?

    Dense, dark yeast head...

I dropped this pic onto another thread but it's a separate issue really so I thought I'd add it onto it's own thread. Having done nothing for the first 24 hours my latest AG brew finally has a yeast head, but it's a lot denser and darker that the ones on my previous beers...any thoughts...

    Minor cock-up (hopefully)

OK, so I've just put my second AG brew (based on the Boddingtons recipe from the CAMRA homebrew book) to bed and have realised a little cock-up I made. Fingers crossed it won't cause too many issues. I started the brew later in the day that I'd intended on Sunday so by 21.30 the beer had only...

    Yeast head gone already??

After making 2 brews using kits I decided to jump in with both feet and go straight to an all-grain brew. I did it yesterday and think I've learned quite a few things to make a few improvements and make things go easier next time. I do however have a possible problem and so a question about...

    Looking for Crystal Malt

Hi, fingers crossed this is the right forum for this question. Have done some successful, if slightly disappointing, brew from kits I want to move on. I want to move on one step at a time and do an extract brew. I've found a recipe that I'd like to try but it says I need to use dried malt...

    First Brew, stupid question time

I should probably have asked this question before I did what I've just done but it's too late now . . . I'm making a Woodforde's Wherry kit. It's been on the go for 5 days now and the SG has reached the required (according to the box) 1.014 so I've just syphoned everything from the fermenting...

    Initial set-up, heating/cooling questions

I'm soon to start my first ever brew . . . I've brought this kit (http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/index.php ... t-set.html) as an easy way to kick things off but don't live in a particularly big house and can't find anywhere to put it that won't upset theWife. I've therefore decided that the...
