    Replacing Fermenting Sugar with Honey

I am about to order and make up two 5 gallon batches of cider. one will be pear and the other likely a fruit blend. These will be my first shop bought kits as I usually go foraging and make wine/mead. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions or experience with replacing the fermenting...

Apple & Ginger Cider 5% Potential

I went right ahead and made a batch (1 Gallon) of Apple & Ginger using Crowfords press 99% Apple 1% Ginger extract. Tesco have this in offer @ £1.50 a litre and I really like it so figured a spot of fermentation was in order. The juice alone came to about 4% so I sugared it up a % for good...

    Marks First Brew Day

I couldn’t agree more – already looking forward to a sip when it’s time to rack. I managed to muddle together 3 more brews this weekend as I was officially ‘rained in’ 1 Gallon freshly squeezed Worcester juice which already has the potential for close to 8% so no added sugar; I just...

    Marks First Brew Day

 They are dust caps! I thought they were just packaging and threw them out... I have spares though and can improvise so will sort that out. The Blackberries got squashed and then ran through a food processor spinning attachment with a filter that extracts juice from just about anything.

    Beekeeper wants to make Mead

Funny thing was I was going to ask if I could make a basic mead batch in a 5 Gallon then syphon to 5 smaller ones and add various flavours at that stage, such as topping up with squeezed juices etc. Truth be told I did have the "I think 10 small and 6 big D/J's is plenty" discussion!!!

    Beekeeper wants to make Mead

Thanks for the tips but I also have 6 x 5 gallon D/J's so I figure 6 Large and 10 small will be fine for me. Not sure I will make many small batches as I keep reading on the forums that it only takes twice as long to make 5 x the amount. To that end I am offering away 4 small D/J's in...

Thanks again... Equipment and additives now purchased "Yipee" All that's missing is my Honey which I shall take off after the Himalayan Balsalm stops coming in like its going out of fashion. (Or if the weather looks like its turning) I have also acquired 14 x 1 Gallon rather dirty old D/J's...

    Beekeeper wants to make Mead

Thanks for the warm welcome. I just sent a list of equipment required to one of the suppliers in the link and asked for a quote. Hopefully shouldn't be too long now before I get a response and be able to go collect my new toys. Then at some point I will have to take part in the Cork vs Screw...

    Beekeeper wants to make Mead

Good Day. Trying not to bore you with the details; I am a beekeeper interested in creating my own mead and haven’t really got a clue where to start. I have already discovered Col. RN Harrison’s recipe and will likely try to recreate that one as others have before me! (See if I can get...
