    Struggling to hit target OG

I am on my 60th Grainfather 30 brew and am occasionally struggling to hit Target OG at end of Mash. I suspect the grain mill as I have not changed anything else. Last night I was doing David Heath’s Mild. Target OG 1.035, I got 1.018. I have spoken to the supplier who delivered 5 grain bills...

Am I doing something wrong - autosiphon?

Hi All. Finally got to bottle my Stones smoked porter today.. but had real issues getting a good transfer from the fermenting bucket to the bottling bucket. I tried the tap-tube method but was not happy with the tap to tube seal as it was sucking in air - obviously a “no no”.. Switched to my...

    Priming calculator what temperature??

Hi Brewing brains. Am about to batch prime my Chinook Porter. The priming calculator on Malt Miller is asking for fermentation temp. I fermented at 18-20 deg C but have cold crashed to 4 deg C. Which is the relevant temp for the calculator. I have entered both temps and get a big difference. 50g...

    Biab... split Wort Challenge....

Hi All Am tight for time and still improving my BIAB technique (20-25l batch). I am hoping to find a recipe from which I can drive two different but drinkable pints ... I would like one of them to be a standard English session bitter... and the other is to be as different as possible but from...

How to tell if beer is bad?

Hmmm? Have been allowed to break my sober October regime and test my first Biab brew. Compared to all my kits before this it is looking suspiciously cloudy. Trouble is it tastes fine. A pale ale with loads of hops. Are there any tell tale signs to look for? This is the brew which I thought had...

Recoiling an immersion chiller? Is it possible?

Hi guys, am finding my feet with BIAB, but I keep having problems with my immersion chiller. First time the hose popped off and blasted into my wort and I abandoned the wort in disgust! Second batch, even with modified connectors, the junction leaked but outside the vessel. So, I was wondering...

    Wow - too lively!

Hi All I have two Kit beers doing this for me at the moment. I suspect i have stored them somewhere too warm ( in my shed) this summer. I left them both in the FV for 3 weeks. Or I may have over primed ( batch primed 100g dextrose). Too much sugar or too warm - what do you think ? Thanks Y

    Hop Tea bag accident!

Hi All Now on Brew 10, gone back to the Di and Danny's Golden Ale kit from the local home brew shop. It came with a hop teabag which unfortunately split in the jug. I decided to transfer the whole lot into the FV, but am not sure on how this will siphon off to bottles... are the muslin/net bags...

Keg beer flat. How to remedy

Seems like I have problem with the valve on my young's keg. The CO2 bulbs are not puncturing, and I have a leak. Trouble is the keg is full of Nelson's Revenge. Is it worth decanting into 2 litre PET bottles and adding another couple of teaspoons to generate the CO2- but this time hopefully it...
