Default Barley/Pearl Barley

Was going to knock up a few gallons of a dried fruit wine this evening but I don't have whole barley for the recipe.

Can I substitute whole barley for pearl barley which is widely available in supermarkets. Would there be much difference in taste.

Cheers.

Pearl barley has the husk and bran removed no idea what difference that would make.

Cheers chaps.

Ended up popping over to our local homebrew shop earlier and bought 500g for £2.99. Just after I picked up a sack of potatoes from a local farm produce shop and they had full 25kg sacks of the same stuff for £4.00. Asked him if he sells it by the kg and he said that he wouldn't miss the odd kilo every now and then seeing as though I was a regular customer.

Know what I will be doing next time !.
