I've been All Grain brewing for about three years now and normally get through about 3 x 25kg bags of Pale Malt a year. You can pay between about £20 and £30 for a bag. But I still don't really know how to judge the quality. With hops I can smell the pungent aroma and feel the sticky resin. I can whiff a slightly Chelsey old hop bag. With malt I sometimes taste a few grains and think that's fine. But do I really know?

Any pointers to judging the quality of malt grain would ne much appreciated.

Any particular brands recommended.

I'm thinking just about Pale Malt here.

Thanks Leon123, my last bag of malt was indeed from Thehomebrewcompany in Ireland. I am certainly happy with it and the price. They also have very reasonable postage. Just thought that I might have been guilty of being a cheapskate. But my efficiency has never been better and the grain looks large and smells fine. But thanks for reassuring me.
