What is the fundamental difference between India Pale Ale and Bitter?
Apart from one being brewed for shipment out to India during the days of the Raj.

they are predominantly strong and they have a shed full of hops added..

Get a copy of Amber Gold and Black from amazon, all you need to know is in there, and its a good read if you want to learn about british beer styles.

But a Bitter is usually only about a month old, and served draft, not many cask bitters are that old now.

True IPA was around the 1070og mark had very high hop levels usually fuggles or goldings, conditioned for around 1 year, then transported in casks by ship to india, then bottled.
