Hi all,

I'm planning a 10litre porter. Its 10l because I havent done one before and want to get a feel before I go all in (as John Prescott said to his secretary).

So heres the plan:

1.6kg light LME
125g Crystal - Steeped
125g Chocolate malt - Steeped
500g sugar
3tbsp cocoa - dissolved in microwave, added 5 mins from end of boil
about a handfull of orange zest, also 5 mins from the end
3tbsp black treacle

Hops:
20g Chinkook (12.5%) - 60mins
10g Goldings - 15 mins
10g goldings - 80C for 20 mins

Windsor yeasties.

Wot say thee? I'm a bit nervous about the black treacle.....

Well, no plan survives first contact so I ended up going the whole 5 gallons

3.2kg LME
250g chocolate malt
150g crystal
500g sugar
3 metric dollops of treacle

50g Chinook for 90 mins
25g Goldings split between 15 mins and 0 mins

Windsor yeast

See what happens!

Man, I have GOT to get a proper boiler! Using 3 different pots is just too much hassle, and I dont think my hop utilisation is any good at all.

OK, has been in the fv for 10 days now and the SG has stabilised at 1.020.

A bit high but considering its a porter fermented with windsor, is this OK or is it a stuckie?

Hiya,
What was your S.G. ?

And yes. What A.T said "Get a boiler"

Starting Gravity 1.056
Finishing Gravity 1.020

1056 - 1020 = 36
36 x 131 = 4.7%

Not bad for a porter.
If it were me I'd stop it there and barrel it.
