Hi all,
So I have procured myself some flexible 100mm aluminium duct long enough to vent the steam from the lid of my boiler to outside my house. I have also cut a 100mm hole in the top of my boiler lid. Now I am stuck as to how to mate the two together. Any thoughts please?

Thanks

This site should have all the bits you need

For mine I used a flanged spigot fixed to the boiler lid. A female couple onto this, then a male coupler fitted in the ducting. This allows easy removal of the ducting but you do get some condensation run down onto the lid which will need an occasional mop up.

I also found an inline fan on the outlet worked much better than just ducting on its own.

Perfect Dads_Ale. Extractor fan bit out my budget at the moment, will look at getting one asap. Thanks.

One thing to be careful with if not using an extractor fan is boil overs. Before I fitted the fan I quite often got hops and foam up in the ducting as the lid was fitted without the gap.

This is where I prod the AG bees nest with a stick.......
I know I'm not a member of the big boys AG gang, but I simmer hops for an hour with the lid on and get no condensation on the kitchen ceiling and the beer tastes great! And my missus doesn't complain about the smell.
Do you really need the industrial strength ducting? Is it a solution to a problem that doesn't/shouldn't exist ?

That's a pity as the price of the parts didn't look to bad.

Got the same parts from http://www.justfans.co.uk/

The parts were more expensive but the shipping cheaper....over all £5 cheaper.....a fivers a fiver though right?

Dads_Ale - did you put a condensation trap to stop any runback down the vent or is it not required with the extractor fan?

I didn't put a condensation trap in. I do get a degree of condensation going back into the boil, mainly from the lid, but I can live with that as in my book it would be pretty sterile anyway. The condensation from the duct ends up on the outside of the lid after running down the connections.

One thing to be careful of is any dips in the ducting as this will collect condenstion
