Hi all, please could I ask someone more knowledgeable to check my logic?

I made up a batch of blackberry and elderberry "port" last weekend. It has been bubbling away for a week now and I have just topped it up with sugar syrup. It started as 4.6 litres at 1.104 sg, and have added 400ml at 1.145. My maths says 400ml is 8.7% of 4600ml, and 8.7% of the difference in sg's is 0.0035, so my net sg is 1.1075.

Does that sound right?

Btw, recipe was:-
3.5 lbs blackberries
.75 lbs elderberries
1 lb raisins
1kg sugar
Lalvin K1-V1116 (picked because I refuse to turn the heating on until 1st of november :sulk: and it is happy from 10c up!!)

Thanks in advance,
Steve.

first thing for port you would need 6lb of fruit per gallon

usually when sugar feeding you will start at about 1.090

when you get down to 1.010 top up to 1.020 or 1.030

you don't measure the sg of the addition

you measure the sg of the must before and after addition

then you can use the calculator link (top left)

start 1.080 end 1.010. = 9.3%
feed 1.010 to 1.030
end 1.030 to 0.990 = 5.3%

total 14.6% ABV

Oops, a bit late!

Never mind; thanks for the info Godfrey.
