In my kitchen I have a dripping tap. It's one of those ceramic taps. Not a major problem, just limescale, but I will need to turn off the stop tap, take the sink tap apart and soak its ceramic discs in vinegar (don't worry, I'll keep it well away from any brews).

Nearby, my red mixture is happily bubbling away in a DJ and a TC is getting underway, with their fermentation traps popping merrily.

Drip, pop, pop, drip, pop, pop, pop, drip, pop, pop.

Then it occurred to me that they are actually very similar noises, each with their own steady rhythm, yet one pleases me and the other annoys me.

It must be purely psychological - drip, drip, drip means I've got a job to do and I probably won't enjoy it, whereas pop, pop, pop means there will be alcohol and I certainly will enjoy it.

Edited for spelling.
Ah well, sod the tap, I've got carrots to chop.
