Just found a packet of the malt miller west coast ale yeast which says best before october 2014 and a packet of us-05 which i cant be a BB. Both purchased in March 2014. Theyve been in my homebrew cupboard in the garage ever since.

Do you reckon they are still usable? Could i pitch onto a wort, give it a few days, if no activity re-pitch without it having a bad effect on the beer?

cheers

They should be fine, I wouldn't make a big beer with them and if you do pitch both. Dry yeast have a better shelf life (Safale is 200b cell count to whitelabs 100b cell count). The amount of viable yeast decrease over time so if you want to make a 23L batch under 1.055SG then you should be fine, just make sure to properly hydrate them and control the fermentation temperature.
