Woke up yesterday in agony. First of all thought it was a pulled muscle but it didnt ease throughout the day.
Beginning to think its a trapped nerve as its 'deep' and the deep heat rememdies dont work. Every little movement hurts, even in the opposite arm!

Luckily off work today so im sat watching telly with a ice pack on my shoulder :(

Any tips on helping it heal?

You could try watching Jeremy Kyle for a while, it'll numb your brain so much you won't feel the pain any more.

Ryan,
Just a word of warning - please go see your Dr as soon as you can.

I had a trapped nerve in my neck at C4/C5 about 2 years ago. The pain was extreme - incapacitating even, I went straight to the Dr's and quickly got an appointment with a specialist. What I had is a Brachial Neuritis, effectively the brachial nerve (which is a bunch of nerves managing all sorts of things) is killed off by being trapped.

I ended up having to use a non-invasive ventilator (NIV - effectively a mechanical breather) to help me breath at night as I couldn't breath lying down. The Brachial nerve controls the diaphram which in turn manages your breathing. I slept in my Lazy boy recliner for much of the night because it was more comfortable.

I was off work for 3 months.

2 years on I am now able to sleep without the use of the NIV but only on my right side lying on my back or on my left side seems to quickly make e breathless and I still have a dead area at the top of my right shoulder (no nerves under the skin), its just where if you were in uniform you would have a badge on your sleeve and I now find that I get breathless very easily even while putting on my shoes.

I was proscribed Physiotherapy, my daughter is also a physio so she has kept me on a strict regime of exercises.

I truly hope yours is just a simple trapped nerve from which you will quickly recover.

All the best.

Crikey, thats some bad luck! I very rarely go to the doctors as I feel itll get better on its own and the doctors have enough to do without me bothering them. Reading what youve put, if im no better later today(afterall it could be a pulled muscle?) ill book a appointment just to be on the safe side.

I hope you recover fully, the human body is a very sensitive thing

Ya big Wuss ! wriggle it about a bit.......

Hope it heals soon and your back into swinging 30 liter buckets about again.

Every sympathy for you...we lost the remote control for the telly for a while and I had to sit through Jeremy Kyle...it was nearly as painful as a trapped nerve...

Get yourself to the docs...at the very least you will get some peace of mind...I trapped a nerve in my back a few years ago..the doc perscribed some very serious painkillers..really big tablets they were like horse tablets...downside was that I was not allowed to drink booze or drive with them.....good advice as they were a bit "trippy"

get thee to the quack, i suffer from neuropathy (amongst other equally fun back complaints ) due to a pinched radial nerve, i have near constant pins and needles in my hands, and sometimes i cannot feel em at all and its murder to do anything, physio is working for me.

Those horse tablets sound erm fun
Yeah, Get on the Tramadol . . .Doesn't stop it hurting, but you just don't give a **** ( :) ) Not quite as trippy as Morphine which is really scary stuff . . . Beware the Spiders

I've got pain in the upper arm along with occasional numbness / tingling of the whole arm. Quack said it sounds like a trapped nerve, but with full strength and mobility in the arm and fingers, and movement not making the pain worse means that basically I'm 'special' and unless it does get worse there is nothing to be done :(

I'm the same but due to being over 60 years of age I am also " special "

I had/have a trapped nerve in my shoulder, have had for about 18 years
I tried everyting the doc had, physio/pain killers to no avail, got an appointment with the (aptly named) pain clinic, the specialist inserted a needle into my shoulder, to see how deep the nerve was, and I nearly passed out with the pain, his conclusion too deep to operate
I then got some acupuncture from the physio dept, a couple of sessions of that and the pain was gone. It came back about 7 years ago and I got some more acupucnture.
Now I have arthirus in both shoulder just to complicate it more for that I use a tens machine which works great.

So know where you are at mate.

I feel bad for moaning after reading some of your stories!

Been to quacks today, its inflammation of the muscle, trapped nerve and possibly inflammation of the nerve so shes given me some tablets to be going on with. Lets see if they work!

Must also add that regular exercise also helps, strengthens muscles, keeps you flexible, try weightlifting kegs :)

Are they big red tablets?? If so watch for the side effects....constant craving for lion bars and winegums...and the ability to appreciate art and music...

So along with the shoulder pain ive been to have 2 molars removed today. They had to sedate me so I cant remember much but they only managed to remove 1 and 1/2 the other. The other 1/2 needs removing at derby hospital.
Not a happy chap at the minute :(
