It's best not to leave it soaking for too long otherwise it can deposit a residue which is very difficult to remove, especially if you have hard water. Around 15 - 20 mins should be enough. Give it a couple of good rinses with hot water then sanitise with your sanitiser if choice.

unfortunatly the horse has long bolted from the range before i have read this!
 
I've been using washing soda (sodium carbonate) to clean all my bottles, using a saturated solution it removes even baked on hard deposits. And it's only about a quid for half a kilo from my local supermarket. Works best with a good long soak on the worst cases.

i'll be giving this a go, its that or trek to the LHBS to get a bottle brush
