I grabbed a Cooper's Stout kit in the recent Tesco gold rush and I'm wondering what to do with it.

I usually brew in a 15L fermenter with around 8-12L volume of wort.

If I wanted to brew the Cooper's kit really short, say 12L, is there a way I can calculate how much brew enhancer to add?

Also, does anyone have any top tips for pimping a stout kit?

Cheers!

I just bought a harvest Stout from Tesco, I'm doing just the kit to 10 litres with 100g cold steeped chocolate malt and I'm using a safale S04 yeast

Use this to calculate the characteristics of your brew http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/calculator/. Your kit can has 1.7kg LME so that's your starting point, which at 12 litre will give you an OG 1.041 without any additional sugars.
You should also consider the impact of doubling the hop IBUs if you brew to 12 litres.
Plenty of suggestions for boosting your kit in the review section here

When I make stouts I only make toucans. It's usually a tin of Coopers Stout and Coopers Dark Ale with 500grams of dextrose or malt.
This I top up to about 25 litres.

So if I were you I'd use 12 litres of so of water and 250 grams dextrose or malt.

If you did it to 10L then you'd just need the kit on it's own, no extras, so I reckon your 250g suggestion is right for 12L. Bear in mind though that the tin is meant to be brewed to 23L so will get more bitter the smaller volume you reduce it too.

Coopers Stout is just the best, even though I brew AG I still do the occasional Coopers Stout and have done in all the 6 years I've been brewing, in fact did one 2 weeks ago: 18L with 1kg spraymalt, turned out wonderful.

Thanks for all the tips gents.
I do have a 23L FV, so I might brew it to 18L with a kilo of youngs brew enhancer which I have lying around.

The trouble I have is that I have too many beers on the go and not enough bottles...

As a suggestion add 100g Dark Muscavado Sugar and 3 or 4 shots of strong coffee (not instant) :thumb:

Interesting, thanks. At what point would I chuck them in? All at the start of fermentation I assume?

Wifey hates coffee too so that might slow her homebrew consumption!

Both are subtle flavour additions to my stouts. I add them to the FV at the start.

Thanks guys for all the advice! I would like to make a white beer as the hoegaarden in Belgium. Any ideas how I can realise that? I have some friends there but they couldn't help me.
Thanks a lot

hoegaarden, is a wheat beer. You're better off starter your own thread.
If you're after a simple recipe someone may know a kit and kilo + hops.
I have no idea, as I've never made one.

This makes a very nice and authentic Wheat Beer, it's a little more complex than a tinned kit but not massively so: the malt extract is dried so you need to mix it with water, and do around an 8L boil on the stove, so you'll need a decent stock pot.

I used to do a Coopers and a Wilko stout together with 1kg of cane sugar to 27L.

Don't see why you can't do a one can Coppers Stout to 13-14 L with 400-500g of sugar or Brew Enhancer. As kits go, stouts are "good to go", but there are endless ideas on the old Coopers Stout Kit thread.

By the way sdt7618,
Do you know the beer Leffe from Belgium? probably yes :)
Love drinking it in his special glass, I feel like a king
I bought them when I was living in france, found then there for a very good price and in perfect condition (hard for beer glasses ) -> https://www.pas-cher.fr/biere-leffe
Thanks for all the advice and I'll definitively buy the kit you recommended me :thumb:
