So - in a desire to kick something off on this rainy miserable day I thought I'd do a simple no frills TC.

4l Apple Juice
0.5l of the usual strong tea
1tsp pectolase
1tsp nutrient
1tsp Cider yeast with sweetener

All in the DJ. If tastes good will do a 25l batch for the warm months a coming to sit alongside the carbonating Ginger Beer - surely is must be BBQ weather soon ... [emoji41]

I would recommend using a champagne yeast and adding a little sugar, then you'll be right away ;)

I prefer straight AJ TC's, the missus prefers the flavoured ones. But I still can't make up my mind if I prefer it with or without adding any tannin.

Bottled this tonight. Gave the Mrs a wee taste "ooh that tastes like proper cider"... not sure weather to be insulted or not..

My response "No **** Sherlock" fell on deaf ears....

Ok, if you can't beat them, join em ;)
Need to have a go at these TC things so basic is the best start.

Couple of questions
Cider or champagne yeast? If the latter, why?
What sort of % do these come out at? Seen recommendations to add 200g sugar at start so will this up the base by around 2%?

Also seen mention of using malic acid?

Cheers

I use Cider yeast with sweeter.
Don't normally add sugar - comes out 5-6% for.
I don't use Malic acid as a norm.

What apple juice do you use for this ? Is it fresh i.e. not from concentrate ?

I would recommend the stuff with E950 in it, I use that 😀

Unless you're afraid of the odd E number or two 😉

I think they're awesome !
And I've now come to terms with my 3rd nipple and hair falling out.
